WATCH: Snippy Trump takes shot at Republicans who are 'happy' about Roy Moore losing
President Donald Trump on Wednesday expounded on his feelings about the shock defeat of Republican Roy Moore in the Alabama Senate race.
During a briefing with reporters, Trump said that he would have preferred to see Moore defeat his Democratic rival Doug Jones.
The president then took a shot at members of his own party who were relieved that they would no longer have to worry about dealing with the controversial Moore in the Senate.
"I wish we would have gotten the seat," Trump said. "A lot of Republicans feel differently, they're very happy with the way it turned out. But as the leader of the party, I would have liked to have had the seat."
Despite Jones' win, Trump also said it was important for Congress to vote on its proposed tax overhaul next week -- before Jones can have a chance to be sworn in.
"It's very, very, very important to get this vote," he said.
