On CNN Tuesday, anchor Erin Burnett pressed Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-ND) on his vote to find the impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump unconstitutional, reminding him of the overwhelming evidence presented to the contrary by House impeachment managers.

"What did you think of Trump defense team's performance?" said Burnett.

President Donald Trump's lawyers didn't impress many in the Senate on Tuesday, even among those who will cast their ballots for the former president regardless of the arguments. But one Democrat described it using a unique analogy.

"These two guys -- this was the Four Seasons Landscaping of the legal profession," said Sen. Chris Coons (R-DE), joking about the former president's past lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who meant to hold a press conference at the Four Seasons hotel and booked a landscaping company's parking lot instead.

On CNN Tuesday, White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins reported that former President Donald Trump was beside himself with anger at the ineptitude of the attorneys representing him on the first day of the impeachment trial in the Senate.

"Kaitlan, I'm sure Trump was very, very unhappy, especially that first lawyer, Bruce Castor, who did an awful job trying to defend the former president," said anchor Wolf Blitzer.

Speaking to MSNBC host Ari Melber after the impeachment opener, presidential historian John Flannery said that anyone who votes to acquit former President Donald Trump is in support of autocracy over democracy.

Flannery detailed the ways in which Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) detailed the case logically, constitutionally and emotionally.

The panel of MSNBC commentators and hosts couldn't help but laugh at the irony of former President Donald Trump's lawyers claiming that Congress is attempting to disenfranchise his 74.2 million voters after trying to disenfranchise 81.2 million voters who cast ballots against him.

Speaking after the vote on whether to proceed, host Brian Williams began the discussion by quoting a tweet from former Clinton White House adviser Paul Begala, "Trump is apparently being represented by the law firm of Meandering & Furious."

On CNN Tuesday, correspondent Jim Acosta reported that former President Donald Trump's advisers are horrified by the legal defense put up at the impeachment trial — and believe Trump would be in serious trouble if he ever faced a criminal charge.

"It was brutal," said Acosta. "I talked to part of the former president's team and Castor's presentation and how it was incoherent at times, and this adviser was candid about it and essentially said part of the problem for the former president is that he was just having difficulty assembling a high-powered legal team. His first legal team essentially bailed on him about a week ago and this one had to swoop in."

Fox News host Brian Kilmeade suggested Donald Trump's impeachment defense should blame the U.S. Capitol insurrection on militant groups he encouraged.

The "Fox & Friends" host offered an unsolicited suggestion to the former president's legal team, which would seem to rely heavily on Republican senators forgetting that Trump told the right-wing Proud Boys group to "stand back and stand by" during a Sept. 29 debate moderated by Kilmeade's colleague Chris Wallace.

Lincoln Project adviser and podcaster Tara Setmayer kicked off Nicolle Wallace's exploration of the downfall of the Republican Party during her Monday show.

While she said she salutes the attempt by Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) to say that the GOP is still her party, Setmayer explained that it was made clear by Rep. Kevin McCarthy's (R-CA) rush to Mar-a-Lago that the party belongs to former President Donald Trump and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).

"The View's" Meghan McCain seemed to have a moment of realization on Monday that the Republican Party may have abandoned her and those like her.

Over the weekend it was revealed that House Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) told Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) that she needed to apologize for voting to support impeachment. Cheney, who was among nine other Republicans to support impeachment, obviously refused to apologize. She was censured by the Wyoming Republican Party, however. It's something McCain should understand because her own mother was censured by the Arizona GOP just a few weeks ago for endorsing Joe Biden for president.

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough unloaded on his former party for embracing Donald Trump and "tyrannical thinking."

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) said last week that Trump still owned control of the GOP because he'd won a record number of Republican votes, but the "Morning Joe" host agreed with Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) that the party should not be embracing the former president.

A spokesman for Dominion Voting Systems says MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell is cruising for a legal bruising.

Company spokesman Michael Steel told CNN that Dominion was lining up lawsuits against conservative broadcasters and other allies of former president Donald Trump over false claims the manufacturer rigged the election for Joe Biden.

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough ripped Senate Republicans for giving cover to "one-term loser" Donald Trump despite his putting their lives and political fortunes in danger by inciting an insurrection.

Few Republicans, if any, are expected to vote to convict Trump in his second impeachment trial in a year, and the "Morning Joe" host criticized their moral reasoning and their political instincts.

Amanda Gorman, the youth Poet Laureate of 2017, delivered a poem for the 2021 presidential inauguration of Joe Biden, but ahead of the Superbowl Sunday, she delivered another poem. Her words honored "three captains for their actions and impact in a time of uncertainty and need."
