Gavin Newsom signs bill striking the word ‘alien’ from California laws

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California acted Friday to eliminate from state law the use of the word “alien,” an immigration term used to describe unauthorized immigrants of foreign-born individuals living in the U.S. Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 1096, by Democratic Assemblywoman Luz Rivas, removing the word from California code. Rivas previously told The Sacramento Bee she was inspired by President Joe Biden’s immigration plan to remove the term from federal law in favor of the word “noncitizen.” The Biden administration says replacing the word recognizes the country as “a nation...

All eyes turn to Pennsylvania after Arizona’s ‘audit’ affirmed Biden’s presidential victory

PHILADELPHIA — Pennsylvania now stands to become ground zero in the movement to “audit” the election after former President Donald Trump’s efforts to discredit the 2020 election results failed in Arizona. A monthslong partisan review in Arizona affirmed President Joe Biden’s victory there, according to findings made public Friday of the so-called “forensic audit” of the election results in Maricopa County, a linchpin county. That review had been widely criticized by experts for failing to follow best practices and was led by a company called Cyber Ninjas that had no previous experience with el...

Trump's Texas 'forensic audit' already in chaos as officials admit they don't know what they're doing: report

A demand from Donald Trump that Texas officials audit the 2020 presidential ballots in select counties is already creating confusion and chaos in the Lone Star state, reports CNN.

On Thursday, the former president fired off a letter to Gov. Greg Abbott (R) demanding an audit of ballots in counties where President Joe Biden did well, and the office of the secretary of state issued a statement reading, "the Secretary of State has the authority to conduct a full and comprehensive forensic audit of any election and has already begun the process in Texas' two largest Democrat counties and two largest Republican counties -- Dallas, Harris, Tarrant and Collin for the 2020 election."

Texas county officials call election audits an unnecessary partisan ploy while voicing confidence in 2020 results

Texas officials from three of the four counties whose 2020 elections are being audited by the secretary of state's office said Friday the development is an unnecessary partisan move aimed at sowing doubt in the results.

Harris, Dallas and Tarrant County officials maintain that their 2020 election results were accurate, echoing a state election official's assertion earlier this year that the election was "smooth and secure." Collin County officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

US says no more Haitian migrants in Texas camp, most press on seeking asylum

No migrants remained Friday at the Texas border encampment where almost 15,000 people — most of them Haitians — had converged just days earlier seeking asylum, local and federal officials said.

It's a dramatic change from last Saturday, when the number peaked as migrants driven by confusion over the Biden administration's policies and misinformation on social media converged at the border crossing connecting Del Rio, Texas, and Ciudad Acuña, Mexico.

‘Pretty much the ball game’: Trump just lost any chance of being able to claim executive privilege

White House press secretary Jen Psaki Friday afternoon casually let reporters know President Joe Biden will not invoke executive privilege on behalf of former president Donald Trump when the House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack requests documents.

Trump is claiming that his status as a former president allows him to retain executive privilege rights, which is wrong. The ability to invoke executive privilege rests only with the current president, and is well-defined.

Trump's Georgia rally overshadowed by GOP infighting, backfiring Arizona audit and Jan 6 subpoenas

Donald Trump's Saturday rally in Georgia got off to an inauspicious start as multiple factors converged to scuttle the former president's hopes for a triumphant return to the campaign trail.

The former president's troubles exploded on Thursday when the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol issued subpoenas to former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, former White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications Daniel Scavino, former Defense Department official Kashyap Patel, and former Trump advisor Stephen Bannon.

HBO "Real Time" host Bill Maher on Friday mocked Republicans for audits of the election President Joe Biden won over ten months ago.

Maddow airs soccer videos to show how thoroughly GOP audits failed in Wisconsin, Michigan and Arizona

On MSNBC Friday, Rachel Maddow detailed a list of Republicans' "own goals" in trying to prove Trump's "Big Lie" that the 2020 election was stolen — complete with videos of soccer matches.

"Are you familiar with the concept of an own goal?" said Maddow. "Like two teams playing against each other, but when you own goal that means you accidentally scored a goal against yourself. In the beautiful game of soccer the phenomenon of an own goal happens infrequently. But it does happen."

Fox News calls Arizona for Joe Biden again -- right as Trump sends out angry attack on 'fake news'

Former President Donald Trump repeatedly blasted out statements on the Arizona audit after the Cyber Ninjas announced that he had not only lost Maricopa County, but lost by an even larger margin than was announced in November.

Fox News reporter Bret Baier said the audit "confirms that President Biden's win in the county and the state was, in fact, a win."

‘Intentionally misleading or staggeringly ignorant’: Maricopa County destroys Cyber Ninjas after ‘laughable’ audit

Maricopa County officials Friday afternoon responded in detail to claims made by Cyber Ninjas in the $6 million six month "audit" of the Arizona county's ballots from the 2020 presidential election. Late Thursday night multiple news organizations reported that Cyber Ninjas' audit, officially released Friday afternoon, found Joe Biden did win the election in Arizona, as originally reported nearly one year ago, and actually walked away with even more votes than first reported, while Donald Trump, the company concluded, got even less.

But the devil is in the details and after six frustrating months of dealing with a company that reportedly has zero expertise in auditing elections, Maricopa County officials blasted some of the "critical concerns" Cyber Ninjas claimed in their report.
