'I’m happy to start threatening people': New Tucker Carlson texts show plan to punish staffers

Tucker Carlson once devised a plan to "threaten" Fox News staffers for purportedly damaging the network's brand by criticizing former president Donald Trump, according to texts newly revealed by the Daily Beast.

Carlson is gearing up for a potential legal battle over his contract with Fox News, which separated itself from the former top host shortly after the network reached a massive settlement in the lawsuit brought by Dominion Voting Systems over defamation in connection with coverage of the 2020 presidential election.

Kansas governor vetoes massive bundle of tax legislation touted by GOP lawmakers

TOPEKA — Gov. Laura Kelly vetoed an $80 million tax reform bill Friday because she said it was unacceptably packed with special interest tax breaks championed by big business rather than focused on policy changes beneficial to regular Kansans.

Content of Senate Bill 8, which was approved on the final day of the 2023 regular session of the Legislature, included a controversial real and personal property tax exemption for fitness, restaurant and child care businesses claiming to be in competition with state or local government entities.

'Republican fundraisers scared to death' after Trump town hall performance: former GOP congressman

Donald Trump's base may have loved his controversial performance at CNN's recent New Hampshire town hall, but those who raise money for Republican campaigns are "scared to death," according to former GOP Rep. Joe Walsh.

Speaking to CNN's Jake Tapper and a Democratic strategist, Walsh, who earlier in March sounded the alarm about the "radicalized" GOP base, said he was a fan of the town hall with Trump despite the barrage of criticisms the network has received in the wake of the event. He said CNN performed a "public service" by putting Trump on display.

Fake Nevada Trump electors won’t face state charges

A group of Nevada Republican electors who submitted paperwork that falsely claimed that Donald Trump won the Silver State’s 2020 election will not face state charges, KLAS-TV Las Vegas reports.

Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford, a Democrat, said Thursday that the fake electors won’t face charges because the state doesn’t have a statute under which they can be prosecuted.

'Clown show': GOP senator buried in mockery for insisting 'you have to infer' Hunter Biden evidence

United States Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin) declared to Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo on Wednesday that all of the purported evidence against President Joe Biden and his son Hunter that Republicans have supposedly amassed over the last three years is something to "infer" and that "you're not necessarily going to get hard proof" of criminal activity.

"So [House of Representatives Oversight Committee Chairman] James Comer [R-Kentucky] walked us through this web of LLCs that the Biden family created and money came from China and other adversarial countries, by the way, not just China. But going into these LLCs and then from there the money went from the LLCs to, to various Biden family members. What can you tell us about that? What were they getting paid for?" Bartiromo asked Johnson.

Analyst buries the myth that Trump supporters don't get enough attention and represent 'half the country'

CNN's defense for hosting the controversial Donald Trump town hall because he represents "a large swath of America” was thoroughly debunked by the Washington Post on Friday as the network continues to reel from the firestorm it created despite warnings beforehand.

In his column for the WaPo, analyst Philip Bump noted that CNN chairman and CEO Chris Licht and popular host Anderson Cooper have rushed out statements that the network is just being inclusive and is trying to put a spotlight on a part of the electorate that is undercovered.

Biden nominates Philip Jefferson to number 2 spot at the Fed

US President Joe Biden nominated Philip Jefferson to the number two job at the Federal Reserve Friday, a position left vacant since Lael Brainard left for the White House in February.

If confirmed, he would take over as vice chair at a crucial time for the Fed, which has raised interest rates 10 times since last year as it looks to tackle above-target inflation.

'Dereliction of duty': Fox News host hammers Kaitlan Collins for inadequately fact-checking Donald Trump

CNN continues to mitigate the fallout from its controversial Wednesday town hall with former President Donald Trump. There has been widespread criticism if not outright condemnation of the network over its decision to host Trump and a cherry-picked audience at Saint Anselm College — where Trump spent the better part of seventy minutes rehashing conspiracy theories, lies about the 2020 election, defaming E. Jean Carroll, and belligerently refusing to answer moderator Kaitlan Collins' questions.

CNN, however, defended the event and insisted that it was a worthwhile investment of viewers' time and an enriching experience for those who watched it. Either way, it happened, and many within the media are wondering how to best juggle Trump, his campaign for reelection to the presidency, and the myriad of legal battles that are looming over him.

'Right of Trump': GOP presidential hopeful wants to abolish the FBI, the IRS and the Education Dept.

The 2024 GOP presidential field continues to grow. Although former President Donald Trump remains the clear frontrunner, he has his share of challengers — including Nikki Haley (former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and ex-governor of South Carolina), former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, and radio host Larry Elder. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis appears to be gearing up for a presidential run, and Sen. Tim Scott (R-South Carolina) launched a presidential exploratory committee in April.

Another longshot GOP presidential candidate is far-right 37-year-old tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, who has been drawing headlines by calling for the United States to raise its national voting age from 18 to 25 — a move that critics say is designed to hurt Democrats, as the GOP's policies are generally unpopular among Generation Z. But Ramaswamy has many other extreme positions as well.

'Anybody but him': GOP senators go public with disdain for Trump

Republican senators appear to be more willing to go public with their disdain for Donald Trump following his widely criticized appearance at a CNN town hall.

The network has faced a barrage of criticism for hosting the event in the first place, and a number of Republicans went on the record with CNN to denounce the former president's election lies and personal conduct during the event packed with a friendly audience.
