WASHINGTON — Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) spoke with reporters at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday about the vote to remove Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) from the Foreign Affairs Committee.

Omar is the only African-born person on the subcommittee for African relations. Republicans are attacking her for comments she made in early 2019 when she first came to Congress. Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) ripped his Republican colleagues for seemingly "cheering on chaos" by hyping drug busts at the border to attack President Joe Biden.

The California politician questioned Sheriff Mark Dannels, of Cochise County, Arizona, during a House Judiciary Committee hearing Wednesday on the "Biden border crisis," the first in a series, and the law enforcement officer agreed that illegal drug seizures were both a success because they had been caught and a failure because they had been smuggled.

Trump vows to use DOJ and Congress to make being transgender illegal while promoting the ‘nuclear family’

As part of his 2024 campaign, Donald Trump is now declaring war against transgender people – especially transgender children – even vowing to use DOJ and Congress to make being transgender illegal under federal law, if elected President. He also promised to promote the "nuclear family," an attack on same-sex couples and families. And he pledged to use the Dept. of Education to file federal civil rights charges against local school teachers who support transgender children – or even the very concept of being transgender.

In 2015, as his first presidential campaign took shape, Trump was falsely hailed by some LGBTQ Republicans as being "pro-gay." In 2016, for a short while, Trump said transgender people should “use the bathroom they feel is appropriate,” although less than 24 hours later he reversed course. But that same year he merged two powerful culture war issues, LGBTQ rights and illegal immigration, into a combined wedge issue to attack his Democratic opponent.

Gov. Greg Abbott announced Monday the creation of a Texas “border czar” and said he has appointed a recently retired Border Patrol agent to that position who will “tap his expertise to deploy strategies that reduce illegal immigration and keep our community safe.”

Abbott said Mike Banks, who retired from Border Patrol 10 days ago, will work alongside the Texas National Guard, state troopers and the Texas Facilities Commission to “accelerate the building of the border wall in Texas.”

Banks said his top priority in his new job “is to make the state of Texas the least desirable place for illegal immigration to cross. I don't think it’s going to be that difficult. ... We just need to be more aggressive.”
