Maryland GOP candidates reject campaigning with their party's top state nominee

On Thursday, The Daily Record reported that several Republican candidates in Maryland are refusing to campaign with Dan Cox, the GOP's nominee for governor in the state.

"Republican Allan Kittleman is squaring off against Democrat Howard County Executive Calvin Ball in November. Four years ago, Ball ousted Kittleman, a moderate Republican, in a year that was bad for nearly every incumbent Republican county executive in the state," reported Bryan P. Sears. "'I’ll be doing campaign events actually with Governor Hogan,' said Kittleman when asked if he would be campaigning with Cox ... Kittleman [also] said Thursday, he is not voting for Cox."

Conservatives in denial after Kansas smackdown

Amid the array of primary election results on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, one stood out in boldface type: Nearly 60% of voters in Kansas, typically a deep-red state that Donald Trump easily carried two years ago, rejected a ballot referendum that would have amended the state constitution to remove the right to abortion.

The amendment, artfully entitled "Value Them Both," represented the first ballot initiative on abortion since Roe v. Wade was overturned in June. Abortion opponents described it as a corrective to a 2019 state Supreme Court ruling which found that the Kansas constitution protects abortion rights, while pro-choice groups warned it would swiftly allow Republican lawmakers to enact a total abortion ban.
