Fox's Peter Doocy mocked for asking Biden two contradictory questions

Fox News White House reporter Peter Doocy asked President Joe Biden several questions on Thursday about the announcement of sanctions against Russia. Doocy questioned whether Biden "underestimated Putin" and if he still believes that Putin is a "worthy adversary," a comment Biden made last year.

But many observers said that you can't "underestimate" someone if you're calling them a "worthy adversary." It prompted Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin to lament that given the gravity of the moment, she had hoped that Doocy would behave respectably. Again, he didn't rise to the occasion, she said.

Mike Pompeo attacks Biden — and says Putin wants to bring back the USSR

Former Trump-era Secretary of State Mike Pompeo lashed out at President Joe Biden in a Fox News column following Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine.

"This invasion was by no means inevitable. We in the Trump administration knew that it was Putin’s aim to establish Russian dominance and influence over all the old Soviet bloc countries, including in Ukraine. We were able to keep an invasion like this one from occurring by establishing a model of deterrence not just with respect to Russia, but with anyone who threatened to harm or undermine our interests," Pompeo wrote. "Make no mistake, Putin is about the business of trying to bring back the Soviet Union. We must not allow that to happen."

'Person Woman Aquaman Camera TV': Trump mocked for saying US forces launched an 'amphibious' attack

As Vladimir Putin launched an aerial, criminal, deadly war of choice Thursday night on Ukraine, Donald Trump called into Fox News, defending the Russian President and blaming Putin's actions on the "rigged" election that tossed him out of the White House.

But at one point talking with Fox News propagandist Laura Ingraham, Trump decided that the United States had launched an "amphibious" attack, on either Russia or Ukraine. He then appeared to be ready to blast President Joe Biden for making that information public, insisting it should be done "secretly."

Retired US Army general slams Trump and Pompeo for praising 'murderous thug' Vladimir Putin

The crisis in Ukraine has gone from bad to worse, with Russian troops, on orders from President Vladimir Putin, now carrying out a full-fledged invasion of the East European country. And President Joe Biden, working closely with the United States’ NATO allies in Europe, has promised to respond to Russian aggression with tough economic sanctions.

But on the MAGA far right, some Republicans have been praising Putin — including former President Donald Trump, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Fox News’ Tucker Carlson. And retired U.S. Army Gen. Barry R. McCaffrey, during a February 23 appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” stressed that no good can come from Trump and Pompeo describing “murderous thug” Putin in glowing terms.

US lawmakers often unite when war looms. Not this time

There is a longstanding custom in US politics that, whatever squabbles are dominating the domestic agenda, Democrats and Republicans rally around the flag when crisis looms overseas.

But the threat of war in Ukraine is severely testing Congress's traditional role as a foreign policy partner to the White House as lawmakers, hobbled by bitter factionalism, struggle to speak with unity.

Ted Cruz ends block on Biden appointments after sanctions issued for Russian gas pipeline

Republican U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz will stop blocking President Joe Biden’s State Department nominees now that the administration is implementing sanctions against a company that built a Russian gas pipeline meant to supply Germany with natural gas.

Still, Texas’ junior senator wants the administration and Congress to issue permanent sanctions on the pipeline as Russian President Vladimir Putin mobilizes forces along the Ukraine border. For months, Cruz single-handedly delayed dozens of key State Department nominees to retaliate against a previous Biden decision to drop opposition to the pipeline.
