The favorite trick Trump could use in new case underscores how broken the US legal system is

Former President Donald Trump has been hit with a lot of lawsuits over the years, but one of his favorite legal tricks has managed to help him come out unscathed more than once.

A new MSNBC News op-ed written by Jessica Levinson offers insight into how one of Trump's new legal cases could play out if he is able to turn to one of his most effective defenses.

The dark truth about conspiracy theories: They're everywhere! Can they be stopped?

Conspiracy theories can take bewildering forms, as has become especially clear in the current era, when a recently deposed U.S. president became instrumental in spreading and popularizing an entire interlocking universe of demonstrably false conspiratorial narratives. But the historical development of conspiracy theories is becoming clearer, thanks to research across multiple disciplines, synthesized for a broad audience in German scholar Michael Butter's recent book, "The Nature of Conspiracy Theories."

Trump is ‘likely going to lose’ new insurrection lawsuit: legal experts

The latest lawsuit against Donald Trump under the Reconstruction era "Ku Klux Klan Act" is likely to succeed, legal experts have explained.

"When Democratic congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) filed a suit against former president Donald Trump on Friday, he took a smart approach. Namely, Swalwell's suit is broader, and therefore would appear more winnable, than one that merely asserts that Trump incited the attacks on the Capitol," Loyola Law Prof. Jessica Levinson explained in an analysis for MSNBC published on Saturday.

Rudy Giuliani's legal woes just got worse as US Attorney ramps up investigation into his overseas dealings: report

Already buffeted by a massive $1.3 billion defamation lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems over his claims that the company helped Joe Biden steal the 2020 presidential election, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani has new legal problems as the US Attorney's office for the South District of New York is re-upping an investigation into his foreign dealings.

According to a report from Yahoo News, the investigation into Giuliani's Ukraine work for Donald Trump in an attempt to dig up dirt on now-President Joe Biden had been sitting dormant but now is being re-activated.

Arizona Republicans chase Rudy Giuliani's election fever dream

After winning a lawsuit to take possession of all of the 2020 presidential ballots and election equipment in Arizona's most populous county, Arizona's Republican-led Senate is poised to take 2020's post-election brawls into new territory where investigating unproven claims of electronically stolen votes, not widespread illegal voting, will be center stage.

Many Republicans, including Arizona legislators, have voiced their belief that former President Trump was unfairly denied a second term, citing various vote-centered conspiracies. In 61 out of 62 post-election lawsuits filed by Trump's allies across the country, scores of federal and state judges rejected those assertions as groundless and lacking proof.

New report exposes Trumpworld connections to a plot to 'strong-arm' elections officials in Michigan

Michigan is one of the states where former President Donald Trump and his lawyers, including former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, unsuccessfully tried to overturn Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 presidential election. Reporter Mardi Link, in an article published by the Traverse City Record Eagle this week, discusses events in Michigan in late November — when some pro-Trump GOP operatives showed up to examine election data.

The operatives, according to Link, went to Antrim County, where they "identified themselves to township officials as representing Rudy Giuliani's legal team" and "accessed official election data in at least one township, according to local officials." On Nov. 27, Link notes, they examined "two separate paper totals tape" from a precinct tabulator.

Trump's Capitol insurrection: A detailed timeline shows how the GOP owns January 6 lock, stock and barrel

At last weekend's Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), the Republican Party tried to rewrite history, in this case very recent history. Seven panels at the event were dedicated to the thoroughly-debunked assertion that Joe Biden is not a legitimate president, including "Other Culprits: Why Judges & Media Refused to Look at the Evidence" and "The Left Pulled the Strings, Covered It Up, and Even Admits It." Trump mined The Big Lie in his keynote speech, claiming that "this election was rigged," that the Democrats had "just lost the White House," that "I may even decide to beat them a third time" in the 2024 presidential race.

One thing Trump didn't address at CPAC was the insurrection he incited on January 6.

Where the GOP lie that Antifa was responsible for the Capitol attack first came from: fact-checker

While Fox News spent the day blaming Democrats for canceling Dr. Seuss because his publisher will no longer continue to publish some of his books that show racist imagery. They missed FBI Director Christopher Wray saying that Antifa had no part in the attack on the Capitol and there was no evidence to suggest that they did.

In an extensive fact-check, CNN's Daniel Dale followed what is being called "the second big lie" by some hosts Tuesday. It all began with a report from the conservative outlet The Washington Times, which falsely claimed on Jan. 6 that Antifa was behind the attack. They later corrected the story, and then wrongly claimed that some facial recognition company identified two Antifa members in the attack, Dale explained.

'Kraken' Sidney Powell loses again as Supreme Court tosses her remaining attempts to overturn vote in Arizona and Wisconsin

On Monday, BuzzFeed News justice correspondent Zoe Tillman reported that pro-Trump lawyer Sidney Powell suffered yet another blow, with the Supreme Court tossing her remaining petitions to challenge the results of the election in Arizona and Wisconsin.

Powell was originally cheered on by former President Donald Trump's allies, with campaign lawyer Jenna Ellis saying she and Rudy Giuliani would "release the kraken" — a term that was swiftly picked up by adherents of the QAnon conspiracy theory.
