Kellyanne Conway gets defensive over North Korea snags: 'So much is repeated and retweeted without verification'
White House counselor to the president Kellyanne Conway on Thursday complained that people are tweeting unverified information about President Donald Trump's scheduled meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
During an interview with Conway on Fox News, host Brian Kilmeade pointed out that some media outlets have reported that the North Korea meeting is in jeopardy because Kim is unhappy about U.S. military exercises.
Conway refused to "confirm or deny" whether North Korea had reached out to the White House over the military exercises.
"I will tell you this," she added. "So much is litigated in the media and it just gets repeated and retweeted without verification. You know, some people call it fake news. I refer to it as uninformed conjecture, speculation. And it's dangerous because people think speculative opinion, wishful thinking, conclusions in search of evidence somehow rises to the level of facts."
Conway went on to express dissatisfaction over the steady stream of leaks coming out of the White House.
"Some of the leaks are authorized," co-host Steve Doocy observed. "But it's the unauthorized ones -- as you said, to try to destroy somebody -- those are the troublesome ones."
"Right," Conway agreed. "The president wants me to make clear to all of you that a lot of this is made up. If you're going to speculate and bloviate about North Korea and what may or may not be true there, you are certainly going to speculate about leaks."
