Rudy Giuliani whines about 'horrible' Manafort treatment to Fox News host Jeanine Pirro: 'This is not a terrorist'
President Donald Trump has said that his former campaign manager is being treated "very unfairly" in the "very sad" trial over alleged financial crimes that could lead to him dying in prison.
Trump's actions have been called "jury tampering" by some commentators.
On Saturday, Trump's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani joined his boss in complaining about the treatment of Trump's former campaign manager, who has established ties to the Kremlin.
"I do think, like the president does, that Mr. Manafort has been treated horribly," he said. "This is not a terrorist, this is not a killer—they arrest him in a horrible way, they raid his house, and then they put him in solitary confinement."
Giuliani also claimed that the story about White House counsel Don McGahn cooperating with special prosecutor Robert Mueller's team was planted in an effort to pressure Trump.
"I think the best analysis would be that the Mueller team is panicking—they know they don't have a case. There was no collusion, there was no obstruction," he said. "They can't prove it and they are trying to get the president to testify, and they are hoping that if they put out a story like this, where they suggest that is cooperating against him... that he will want to come in and explain himself."
