Conservatives can't quite figure out where they are Russia, alluded the New York Times in a Q&A Wednesday. The early days were dominated by Republicans saying that the U.S. should stay out of the conflict. Some went so far as to say that Russia has every right to reclaim its land, with former President Donald Trump calling Russian President Vladimir Putin a "genius" and "savvy."

On Wednesday, writing for The Daily Beast, Ursula Perano analyzed the state of the Democratic Senate primary in Pennsylvania, one of the main pickup opportunities for the party, where Rep. Conor Lamb and Lt. Gov. John Fetterman have emerged as clear frontrunners.

"A retired Marine who prosecuted sexual misconduct cases as an attorney, Lamb has spent two terms terms in Congress establishing a reputation as a moderate Democrat who found a way to win races in 'Trump Country' — including in a House district that favored Republicans by double digits," wrote Perano. However, he has faced setbacks in his campaign.

A senior US defense official told CNN Pentagon correspondent Barbara Starr said that the U.S. is officially reporting that they have proof of war crimes at the hands of Russia.

President Joe Biden had answered a question from reporters about war crimes, agreeing that it was what Putin was doing. Reports on the ground show many civilian targets have been intentionally bombed. In one case, a shelter for children, it was painted on the pavement, in Russian, that there were children in the building. It was bombed anyway. Hospitals have been hit along with apartment buildings, the shopping mall, the parking lot of a grocery store and other civilian targets.

Former President Donald Trump is continuing to lash out at members of his own party who did not join his efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

In Georgia, Trump has directed his ire at Gov. Brian Kemp for not overturning the state's election, which was won by President Joe Biden. Trump helped recruit former Sen. David Perdue to challenge Kemp in the state's GOP primary. In the 2020 race for secretary of state, Trump endorsed Rep. Jody Hice (R-GA) against Republican incumbent Brad Raffensperger.

Legal experts were shocked on Tuesday when Sen. Mike Braun (R-IN) argued that states should have the right to ban interracial couples from getting married.

"U.S. Sen. Mike Braun would welcome the U.S. Supreme Court rescinding its 1967 ruling that legalized interracial marriage nationwide in favor of allowing each of the 50 states to decide such issues on their own," The Times of Northwest Indiana reported Tuesday. "Speaking Tuesday on a conference call with Indiana reporters, the Hoosier senator unambiguously declared his belief that many of the high court's key civil rights decisions of the past 70 years were wrongly decided and an improper usurpation of state's rights."

A Georgetown University history professor is shedding light on the real reason why far-right Republicans still believe the unfounded claim that President Joe Biden's presidential win was illegitimate.

While its no secret that election conspiracy theories and false claims of widespread voter fraud have run rampant since former President Donald Trump lost his bid for re-election, there is a reason why Republicans "are convinced the outcome of the election was illegitimate regardless of whether or not there were specific procedural irregularities."

During Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson's confirmation hearing on Tuesday, Sen. Pat Leahy (D-VT) responded to Republicans' complaints about how Brett Kavanaugh was treated during his own confirmation hearing.

"I was going to respond to something the junior senator from Texas said yesterday," said Leahy. "He suggested Democrats exacted a political agenda by opposing the nominations in Judge [Neil] Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. I kind of chuckle at that because along with others, others repeatedly and clearly stated substantive concerns with Justice Gorsuch's nomination."

On Tuesday, writing for The Bulwark, conservative writer Charlie Sykes tore into former President Donald Trump for his "reckless and ignorant" interview with Fox Business host Stuart Varney, in which he appeared to claim he'd end the Ukraine invasion by threatening Russia with nuclear weapons.

Trump critics have repeatedly accused him of being too close to Vladimir Putin and he was impeached after he was accused of shaking down Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for dirt on Joe Biden's family as a condition of providing security aid. But, noted Sykes, Trump took a 180-degree swerve in his interview, arguing for a massive military escalation against Russia that he didn't even seem to fully comprehend himself.
