GOP anger boils over as MAGA extremists score key assignments

Republicans are speculating whether Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., might retire from Congress and shrink Speaker Kevin McCarthy's, R-Calif., narrow margins after losing the Ways and Means chairmanship, Puck's Tara Palmeri reported.

Buchanan was reportedly angry at McCarthy and accused him of sabotaging his candidacy for the committee chairmanship after he was passed over as the most senior person on the committee by Rep. Jason Smith, R-Mo., a member who was fifth in line.

The Republican candidate who promised she is 'not a witch' owes the IRS big money

WASHINGTON — Republican Christine O'Donnell is perhaps best known for her 2010 U.S. Senate campaign ad proclaiming to Delaware voters, "I'm not a witch," after videos leaked of her talking about dabbling in witchcraft.

O'Donnell was running to replace Joe Biden in the U.S. Senate at a time when the far-right Tea Party movement sought to claim increased political power. But she lost — badly — and largely faded from public view.

Lauren Boebert mocked after promising to 'never attend' global forum she wasn't invited to

Far-right Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) underwent an onslaught of social media mockery after proclaiming she would never attend the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland — despite no invitation ever being extended, wrote Lee Moran for the Huffington Post.

After Boebert posted "I will never attend the World Economic Forum" on Twitter Tuesday, commenters were quick to reply with their own snarky pledges of places they'd never go or things they'd never do.

Marjorie Taylor Greene scores prime spot on Homeland Security Committee despite 9/11 conspiracy theories

After being booted from her committee assignments by a majority of House Democrats and Republicans, in the new Congress, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) will sit on the prime Homeland Security Committee.

Greene has been accused of helping to organize and support the Jan. 6 insurrection and attack on the U.S. Congress in 2021. Her participation was part of a hearing where Georgians attempted to have her removed from the ballot using the 14th Amendment saying that no one who participated in an insurrection could hold elected office. Since Greene hasn't been convicted of attempting to overthrow the government, it has made it more difficult for critics to accuse her of being an insurrectionist, even if she supported the cause.

Dr. Oz is more unpopular in New Jersey than he was in Pennsylvania: poll

Dr. Mehmet Oz spent his whole Trump-backed campaign for Senate in Pennsylvania dogged by questions about his residency, having lived in New Jersey and having only a tenuous connection to the state in which he was running. That accusation of carpetbagging put him on the defensive throughout the election and was a key factor in his loss to Democratic Lt. Gov. John Fetterman.

Now, polling suggests that if Oz wanted to restart his political career in New Jersey, it would go even worse for him, wrote Jonathan D. Salent for NJ.com on Tuesday.

Watch: Jamie Raskin draws a direct line between Jan. 6 and accused New Mexico MAGA shooter

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) said Donald Trump's use of far-right supporters to promote fear among Democrats and non-MAGA Republicans could be linked to Solomon Pena, a 2022 Republican candidate for the New Mexico state House who's accused of shooting attacks on six Democratic lawmakers.

Speaking to MSNBC's Rachel Maddow on Monday, Raskin explained that the Jan. 6 committee warned that this type of "dangerous extremism" being "embraced as part of the political system" would persist if action wasn't taken.

Watch: Republicans face criticism for ignoring 'very valid reason' for Trump and Biden to be treated differently

A political analyst suggested Monday on CNN that Republicans were acting hypocritically by vowing to investigate President Joe Biden's handling of classified documents after defending former President Donald Trump.

Secret documents have been found both at an office Biden used after he ended his service as Barack Obama's vice president in 2017 and in the garage of his Delaware home. Rep. James Comer (R-KY), the chairman of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, has demanded to see visitor logs for Biden's home.

Infowars viewers fume at 'fraud' Marjorie Taylor Greene for supporting McCarthy as House speaker

Far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and his online “Infowars” show have been highly supportive of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, who has been a frequent guest on the program. But some “Infowars” viewers, Newsweek reports, are turning against Greene for supporting Rep. Kevin McCarthy during his protracted battle to become House speaker.

McCarthy finally won that battle on Friday night, January 6. In 14 roll-call votes, a group of MAGA lawmakers who were dubbed the “Never Kevin” Republicans repeatedly voted against making McCarthy House speaker. But with the 15th vote, McCarthy finally prevailed.
