CNN panel bursts out laughing over Trump’s DeSantis obsession: ‘He can feel himself losing the audience’

Former President Donald Trump is stepping up his attacks on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as the latter appears to be moving closer to a presidential campaign against him for the GOP nomination — and a CNN panel on Wednesday laughed at the way Trump appears to be losing control of the situation with his former ally.

"Ron DeSantis is out there this week holding campaign-style rallies in three states, kicking off a national book tour with the release of his memoir next week," said anchor Jake Tapper. "Do you see this as essentially a soft launch for his presidential campaign?"

Republicans endorsed by Trump aren't coming out in droves to support him: analysis

While Donald Trump is visiting the site of a rail disaster in Ohio, a state he won in both the 2016 and 2020 elections, Republicans in the state haven't rallied to support his 2024 bid for the White House, according to an analysis by The Washington Post.

Only three of Ohio’s 10 House Republicans have endorsed Trump for 2024, but none showed up to his press event in Palestine this Wednesday. "The relative lack of Trump endorsements is striking because Trump — who once described himself as “the king of endorsements”— endorsed all but one of the Republicans in Ohio’s delegation last year. And the state isn’t an anomaly," The Post's analysis stated.

'Coldblooded' DeSantis buried for 'playing dumb' about Russian slaughter in Ukraine

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) was raked over the coals in a blistering column at the Bulwark for running to Fox News on Monday and undercutting President Joe Biden's show of support for Ukraine.

Disregarding a long-standing congressional agreement that "politics stops at the water's edge" proposed by Sen. Arthur Vandenberg (R-MI) in 1948 as NATO was being formed, DeSantis chose to instead attack Biden for his visit to the war-torn country, while waffling on Russia's invasion. It drew the ire of Amanda Carpenter, a former speech writer for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX).

'Gift to the ruling class': Florida bill would make it easier for officials like DeSantis to sue critics

A Florida House Republican introduced legislation Monday that would make it easier for state officials—such as censorship-happy Gov. Ron DeSantis—to sue for defamation, a measure that critics decried as a blatant attack on the freedom of the press and free expression with potentially sweeping implications.

Filed by Florida state Rep. Alex Andrade (R-2), H.B. 951 laments that the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark ruling in New York Times v. Sullivan has "foreclosed many meritorious defamation claims to the detriment of citizens of all walks of life" by placing such claims under the purview of the federal government and establishing a high standard of proof.

During NYC visit, Gov. DeSantis complains about ‘woke’ politicians, avoids thorny issues like abortion, book bans and LGBTQ rights

NEW YORK — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis jetted into the city Monday to press the case that New York should follow his state’s lead in turning the tide on “woke” politics, including by rolling back “failed” bail reform laws. But the Republican governor, in town to deliver remarks at a law enforcement conference on Staten Island, steered clear of discussing abortion, LGBTQ rights and other issues he’s drawn plenty of controversy for on the national stage. “I read that New York is the only state that doesn’t allow judges to consider when they’re making a bail determination whether someone’s a danger...

GOP grumbling that DeSantis has 'overstepped' in his 'anti-woke' crusade: report

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is coming off his resounding re-election with buzz from Republican strategists that he could be an alternative to former President Donald Trump in 2024 — a possibility he is teasing, but has not yet formally declared.

But even now, reported Steve Contorno for CNN, some Republicans, including his own allies, are worried that DeSantis' crusade against "wokeness", including a school censorship bill so broad it caused some teachers to empty school bookshelves entirely, and a ban on Florida government agencies from doing business with any company that uses sustainability targets.

DeSantis trolls Trump by holding big donor retreat in shadow of Mar-a-Lago

With a reported $70 million sitting in the bank, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) will be hosting a three-day donor retreat this week for wealthy donors. And, despite having all of Florida to choose from, he's holding it just minutes away from Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago home.

Over the weekend the Palm Beach Post reported on Trump holding a President's Day small-scale gathering at a close-by Hilton, followed by another event at his home Thursday. Monday's gathering led one observer to point out that the former president is eschewing his larger rallies before adding, "Seems as if Trump has lost his mojo."
