Florida judge dismisses voter fraud case from DeSantis-touted arrests

ORLANDO, Fla. — An Orange County judge Monday dismissed a voter fraud case brought by Gov. Ron DeSantis’ new election crimes office, finding statewide prosecutors lacked the authority to charge the Orlando defendant. “If the legislature wants a centralized prosecutor with the power to pursue any perceived illegality throughout the state of Florida, the Florida legislature has the authority to create a centralized system,” Orange County Circuit Judge Jenifer Harris wrote in her ruling.“This court will not facilitate such a concentrated power without legislative authority.” Last week, however, the ...

DeSantis pushing legislation to expand his crusade against ‘woke’ capitalism

Gov. Ron DeSantis and legislative leaders are promising to extend the governor’s campaign against “ESG” investing through legislation barring state and local agencies from putting taxpayer money in banks that consider more than the naked bottom line in managing investments.

“ESG stands for “economic, social, and governance” considerations in investments on behalf of stockholders or pension beneficiaries. That means factoring in the danger of climate change or the benefits of diverse workplaces with corporate controls to prevent nepotism, embezzlement, and other ills.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The feud between Gov. Ron DeSantis and the College Board over Florida rejecting the AP African American studies course escalated Monday with DeSantis threatening to drop the organization’s Advanced Placement classes from Florida high schools. “So this College Board, nobody elected them to anything. Tim Scott plans presidential campaign based on 'unity and optimism': WSJ

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) is planning to launch a 2024 campaign for president, reported the Wall Street Journal on Monday.

"Mr. Scott, the only Black Republican in the Senate, is testing a message with GOP voters in key early states focused on unity and optimism as some Republicans say it is time to move on from the Trump era. Mr. Trump has announced a bid for president in the 2024 election," reported Eliza Collins. "Jennifer DeCasper, a Scott senior adviser, said he was 'excited to share his vision of hope and opportunity and hear the American people’s response.' What isn’t clear yet, some people close to Mr. Scott acknowledge, is whether the GOP base that enthusiastically embraced Mr. Trump is interested in that message."

'He's a bit strange': Parkland dad pours cold water on Ron DeSantis' presidential hopes

During an appearance on MSNBC on Sunday morning, Fred Guttenberg, whose daughter Jaimie was gunned down at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida five years ago, said Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) stands no chance of being the 2024 presidential candidate in 2024 once Americans see him in action.

Speaking with host Jonathan Capehart, the gun activist first lambasted the Florida Republican for his stance and hypocrisy on guns, before being asked by the MSNBC host if DeSantis will supplant Donald Trump at the top of the 2024 presidential ticket.

Trump's 'desperation' is beginning to show: GOP campaign consultant

According to a key Republican Party campaign consultant with ties to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Donald Trump is a weakened presence within the party and his ugly attack on Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) this past week is a sign he knows he's faltering.

During a panel discussion on CNN's "State of the Union," GOP adviser Scott Jennings hammered the former president and said it was obvious that the Florida governor's rise in the polls is getting under Trump's skin.

Revealed: Trump campaign buried research about 2020 election outcome when it didn't fit the script

Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign commissioned an outside research firm to prove electoral fraud claims, but its work never saw the light of day after no evidence was found to support those claims, the Washington Post reported in an exclusive story today.

The campaign hired Berkeley Research Group to study the 2020 results in six states “looking for fraud and irregularities to highlight in public and in the courts,” the Post reported. That study, for which the Trump campaign paid more than $600,000, was conducted in the final weeks of December 2020.

Ron DeSantis' culture war benches baseball great Roberto Clemente biography

One of the most inspiring baseball stories ever told might not be suitable for Florida public school libraries under the leadership of Gov. Ron DeSantis.

The book, “Roberto Clemente: Pride of the Pittsburgh Pirates,” is among the more than 1 million titles that “have been covered or stored and paused for student use” in Florida, NBC News reported. The freeze follows the Florida “Stop W.O.K.E. Act” that DeSantis signed in 2022.

The book about Clemente’s life by Jonah Winter and Raul Colon is not alone. Other books about Latino figures, such as U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor and the late Afro-Cuban salsa singer Celia Cruz, have the same frozen status, NBC reported.

Ron DeSantis slammed for 'next-level' hypocrisy

The campaign of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis—a strident supporter of loosening gun regulations—tried to ban firearms at an election night event in Tampa last year and blame the city for the policy, The Washington Post said in a report published Friday that had critics on both sides of the political aisle calling the presumptive 2024 Republican presidential candidate a hypocrite.

According to the Post, DeSantis' campaign sought to prohibit guns from the governor's reelection victory party at the Tampa Convention Center, a city-run venue, last November 8, while suggesting city officials claim responsibility for the ban.

The Post obtained an October 8 email from Chase Finch, the convention center's safety and security manager, saying that "DeSantis/his campaign will not tell their attendees they are not permitted to carry because of the political optics."

Republicans plotting against Trump over fears of 'electoral oblivion': analyst

Fears that Donald Trump will be at the top of the 2024 ballot as the presidential nominee has galvanized the Republican Party establishment to work together to derail any momentum he has in an effort to forestall a repeat of the 2022 midterms where Trump weighed heavily on the poor GOP election results.

According to longtime political analyst Karen Tumulty, Republican insiders and donors see no path back to the White House for Trump in the 2024 general election should his supporters turn out in force during the primaries and make him, for the third time, the presidential nominee.
