FBI agent accused of trying to bury Hunter Biden probe resigns: report

On Tuesday, CBS News reported that Timothy Thibault, a high-ranking FBI agent accused of bias by Republicans in the Hunter Biden investigation, has resigned.

"Thibault, who worked in the FBI headquarters in Washington, D.C., had recently been removed from his position as assistant special agent in charge at the FBI's Washington Field Office, which covers all of the District of Columbia and Northern Virginia," reported Andres Triay and Catherine Herridge. "Thibault came under fire earlier this year from Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley who had accused him of 'improper conduct' in the Hunter Biden investigation, alleging that Thibault had tried to close the probe."

GOP starting to distance from Trump — but ‘it’s too late to cut the cord’ before midterms: MSNBC’s Heilemann

Republicans seem to be backing away from former President Donald Trump as his legal scandals continue to mount, but MSNBC's John Heilemann said it may be too late to prevent the former president from dooming their chances in November's midterm elections.

The GOP had expected to regain congressional majorities, but a series of political wins for President Joe Biden and the Democrats, compounded with grave concerns about Trump's handling of classified materials and his role in Jan. 6, are making Republicans jittery, but the "Morning Joe" analyst said they may be stuck with him.

Donald Trump cites unverified account of FBI agent's resignation

Correction: CBS News reported on Tuesday morning that FBI Special Agent Tim Thibault "resigned late last week and was walked out of the FBI, two U.S. officials confirmed. But these officials also said that Thibault had reached retirement age, and they added that all of those who retire hand over their badge and gun and are escorted out of the building." AlterNet regrets the error.

Former President Donald Trump has been angrily railing against the FBI since Monday, August 8, when FBI agents executed a search warrant at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida. The agents, according to the New York Times, were looking for classified documents that should have remained in Washington, D.C. when Trump left the White House in January 2021.

After a summer of surprising successes, President Biden is on a roll

It is time to give President Joe Biden his due. While Biden's approval rating doesn't reflect it, Uncle Joe is on a roll. After some bumpy months, gas prices are dropping, unemployment is at record lows, the job market is booming, incomes are rising, a top al-Qaida leader was taken out, the first Black female Supreme Court justice was seated, NATO has expanded, and Biden unified European support for Ukraine in its fight against Russia. Even better, Biden's policies are helping average Americans and not special interests. Last week, Biden announced a plan to cancel up to $10,000 in student debt...

'Do you choose violence, chaos, cruelty, conspiracy:' Ex-Republicans sound the alarm on stopping Trumpism in November

Lincoln Project co-founder Rick Wilson appeared on MSNBC's "Deadline White House" with Nicolle Wallace Monday to talk about the group's latest ad that highlights the ways in which the Republican Party was once opposed to so-called "big government" and the "nanny state" legislating the personal behaviors of Americans.

Wallace, who served in George W. Bush's White House, has abandoned the GOP since Trump took over the GOP. Wilson similarly did the same, forming the super PAC with a group of so-called "Never Trumpers," who continue to support moderate candidates.

White House: Lindsey Graham just proved Biden's 'semi-fascism' claim is correct

The White House says U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham's threat of "riots in the streets" should the Dept. of Justice decide to prosecute Donald Trump proves President Joe Biden's label of "semi-fascism" for the "MAGA Republicans" is correct.

"We have seen MAGA Republicans attack our democracy. We have seen MAGA Republicans take away our rights. Make threats of violence, including this weekend, and that is what the President was referring to when you all asked me last week about the 'semi-fascism' comment," White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told a reporter Monday (video below) when asked about Sen. Graham's threat.

Why Biden's 'MAGA philosophy is semi-fascist' isn't the same as Clinton's 'basket of deplorables'

Atlantic editor Ron Brownstein joined former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-FL) in discussing the dramatic evolution from a few fringe conservatives being violent to it being a dominant force in the Republican Party.

Behind closed doors, President Joe Biden said that MAGA Republicans have gone semi-fascist in their philosophy. The level of lawlessness seen by MAGA Republicans has included the insurrection and violent attack on the U.S. Capitol, the attempt to overthrow the government and 2020 election, voter fraud, a kidnapping attempt, bombing plots, assassination threats, slaying of an anti-racist protester in Charlottesville, two attacks on state FBI headquarters, threats against the National Archives, threats against IRS agents and threats against judges, reporters, FBI agents and a slew of elected officials.

Biden heads to Milwaukee and Pittsburgh for Labor Day as midterms campaign heats up

President Joe Biden will head to two blue-collar cities, Pittsburgh and Milwaukee, for Labor Day as he seeks to build momentum for Democrats as the midterm election campaign enters the home stretch. Testing his modest rebound in the polls, Biden will show off his trademark appeal to factory workers, a key demographic as Democrats seek to cling to control of the Senate and dream of even holding the House of Representatives. “In both cities, the President will celebrate Labor Day and the dignity of American workers,” the White House said in a statement. Both states have races for governor and U....

GOP governor Brian Kemp must testify in Fulton special grand jury proceeding after Nov. 8 election

A Fulton County judge has ordered Gov. Brian Kemp to testify in a special grand jury investigation into former President Donald Trump and associates’ attempts to interfere in the 2020 election.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney ruled Monday that Kemp will appear before the grand jury following the Nov. 8 election in which the Republican will face Democrat Stacey Abrams. McBurney rejected arguments that the governor should not be forced to testify because of sovereign immunity, which protects the state from being sued without its consent, and dismissed claims that the Fulton court had no power to enforce the subpoena.
