WASHINGTON — The family of Michigan's Paul Whelan was "astonished" Wednesday after President Joe Biden called the wife of WNBA star Brittney Griner but did not also call the Whelans. Both Whelan and Griner are imprisoned in Russia, but Griner was arrested in February, while Whelan has been held for 3 1/2 years. His family has sought a meeting with Biden for months and months, with his sister, Elizabeth Whelan, putting in four requests that have not been granted, she said. The Whelans suggested the disparate treatment is due to Griner's celebrity. The two-time Olympic gold medalist plays for th...

Republicans react to another mass shooting with another round of deflection

Following the mass shooting that took place at the Fourth of July Parade in Highland Park, Ill, which left seven people dead, far-right figures are reaching for their grab-bag of different things to blame the latest massacre on anything but guns.

MAGA politician Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., suggested that the attack was part of Democrats' plans to push forward gun reform. Along with blaming Democrats, Greene argued that recent mass shootings have been caused by mental health medications themselves, such as the commonly used anti-depressants like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI).

Pat Cipollone is 'a greatest hits package of crazy statements' by Donald Trump: legal expert

Former White House Counsel Pat Cipollone has agreed to speak to the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on Congress on Friday.

Former Assistant Deputy Attorney General Harry Litman told CNN that Cipollone has carefully negotiated the testimony and he will likely "steer around down the middle" of the attorney/client privilege. However, former President Donald Trump is not the client of a White House counsel, the White House is. President Joe Biden has waived executive privilege for anything involving Jan. 6 or the 2020 election.

'Invasion': Texas Lt. Gov. likens border crossings to attack on Pearl Harbor – 'These people are a danger to America'

Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, a far-right Republican, is comparing migrants crossing the border into Texas to Japan's 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor that killed 2335 people. He is calling it an "invasion" and says that gives the state the right to "put hands on people."

Patrick, who because of Texas' unique structure is more powerful than the governor, told Fox News on Tuesday, "we are being invaded, and if we're being invaded under the constitution I think that gives us the power to put hands on people and send them back. Put hands on people and send them back," he said repeatedly.
