'The answer is not appeasement':  Mueller prosecutor goes off DOJ's footdragging on Trump

Republicans in Congress have been pushing a narrative that President Joe Biden is using the Justice Department and the FBI to attack his foes. A new report in The Washington Post reveals that the opposite is the case. Despite piling evidence, state referrals, and months-long public congressional hearings, the DOJ held back.

MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace explained that one of the understandings "for why we are here" is uncovering that the decisions that have been made thus far are "inherently political. Where the Barr Justice Department was aggressively, proactively, political through its actions, the Garland Justice Department has been equally political through inaction and through reluctance if there was truly a culture, as Carol reports, that saying Trump was taboo, that they were walking on eggshells because of who had committed the crime, that is a political culture."

'We were embarrassed': DOJ insiders told reporter they acted on Jan. 6 only after House committee shamed them

The Washington Post revealed that the Department of Justice and the FBI were resistant to opening a probe into Donald Trump for Jan. 6 for over a year, but reporter Carol Leonnig told MSNBC on Monday they were finally shamed into acting when the House Select Committee launched an investigation into the insurrection.

Leonnig began by explaining that between her and her co-author, they interviewed more than 100 people – and many had assumed that the DOJ was already involved in a Jan. 6 investigation. What her report revealed was that, at the time, it wasn't.

Former Department of Justice lawyer lays out what Trump's legal team will have planned

Former Justice Department official Mary McCord, in a Q&A about the recent indictment of Donald Trump, has given her view on his case so far – and what she would do differently if tasked with defending the former president.

Speaking to Washington Post associate editor Ruth Marcus, McCord began by saying she was surprised by just how detailed the indictment was. While she and other legal eagles assumed that it would have to be bullet-proof, what it detailed "was, frankly, even stronger than I expected. ... By stronger I mean the evidence of obstructive conduct — failure to cooperate, failure to return classified information that had been requested, was far more fulsome than even I had imagined and went back much further in time," she said.

Watergate prosecutor says Congress could act to put cameras in Trump courtroom

Former prosecutor Jill Wine-Banks explained during an MSNBC debate that cameras have been allowed in many courtrooms over the past several years and she thinks there's no reason that shouldn't happen in the case of Donald Trump.

She also explained that audio recordings have been at the Supreme Court for years and all of the fears and excuses given to keep them out have been wrong.

Still no arrests after shooting at Juneteenth celebration near Chicago

One person was killed and at least 22 injured in a mass shooting near Willowbrook in southeast DuPage County early Sunday morning, authorities said. Fire officials received calls reporting gunshot victims around 12:30 a.m. and responded to the strip mall at Route 83 and Honeysuckle Rose Lane where a “really large” gathering had occurred, said Steve Vogel, a Tri-State Fire Protection District battalion chief. The gathering began as a Juneteenth celebration, according to the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office. The fire department transported 10 people to local hospitals. One of those 10 people died a...

Trump rages about election cheaters as Georgia charges loom

Donald Trump was indicted federally last week, leading New York Attorney General Letitia James to announce she would give preference to the feds trying their case. But when it came to Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, she said that her case was entirely separate from the documents case.

Willis has already asked for security assistance starting at the end of July so they will be prepared for the indictment she expects in the first week of August.

National security lawyer thinks Trump is too scared to have cameras show his trial

National security lawyer Bradly Moss doesn't think that former President Donald Trump wants any of his federal trial to be public. Typically there are no cameras in federal courts, and to get them would take a willingness from both sides to petition the Supreme Court.

MSNBC host Yasmin Vossoughian said that there is a lot of distrust in the justice system. Already, Republicans are demanding the firing of FBI Director Christopher Wray, a Trump appointee, and Attorney General Merrick Garland. At the same time, the U.S. Supreme Court is at its lowest approval rating in history, in part, due to a lack of transparency. The Supreme Court has fought cameras in courts from the beginning.

Trump forced to wish himself a happy Father's Day after Ivanka snub

Ivanka Trump has been absent from events at Mar-a-Lago, Donald Trump's 2024 presidential campaign announcement and at any events where her father has been forced to face off against "the law." Reports last week even claimed that the eldest Trump daughter was keeping away intentionally.

That was evident in her Father's Day posts on social media this year, which celebrated not her father, but her husband, Jared Kushner.

One person died and nearly two dozen were wounded in a mass shooting early Sunday at a Juneteenth celebration in Illinois, officials said. Jon Stewart: Trump is right — there is a two-tiered justice system

One of the many attacks Donald Trump and his Republican allies have made after being indicted on a number of federal charges is that the former president is the victim of a two-tiered justice system.

There are many people on both sides of the aisle that agree, though not about him being a victim.
