Cenk Uygur hammers Huckabee's racist rant: I'm surprised he didn't call North Koreans 'Chinamen'
Young Turks host Cenk Uygur was momentarily stunned on Wednesday to hear about Mike Huckabee's racist online post which used an anti-Asian stereotype to try to make fun of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).
"Jesus lord mercy," Uygur said. "I'm surprised he didn't call them 'Chinamen'."
Huckabee has been on the defensive since he said on Twitter that he trusted Sanders with his money "like I trust a North Korean chef with my labrador."
After being quickly criticized, the former Arkansas governor and GOP presidential candidate complained about "political correctness" on his Facebook page and accused progressives of ignoring North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong-un's own transgressions for the sake of lambasting his "joke."
Uygur responded by pointing out that Huckabee's post wasn't directed toward Kim Jong-un at all.
"We're all agreed on that you schmuck, so don't misdirect," Uygur said. "You made a joke about the people, not about their dictator. Dictator jokes? Have at it. But you made a racial joke about the people in North Korea. So don't try to hide it and misdirect it."
Co-host John Iadarola compared Huckabee's reasoning to the "incredibly simplistic" argument Ann Coulter used against Uygur during their debate last weekend, in which she tried to avoid accountability for her statements by passing criticism off as an endorsement of other problems.
"Stop defending dictators, Cenk," Iadarola said melodramatically.
