GOP donors fleeing the 'exhausting circus' that surrounds Trump: report

According to a report from Politico’s Meredith McGraw and Matt Dixon, key Republican donors are growing increasingly put off by what is being described as the “exhausting circus” that surrounds Donald Trump due to his efforts to remain a viable GOP candidate in 2024.

As the report notes, the revelations by the Jan 6th committee investigating the Capitol insurrection that forced lawmakers from both sides of the aisle to flee for their lives is taking a toll not only on the former president's already tattered reputation but also of big money Republican Party donors who are starting to look for other candidates to invest in.

Pro sports leagues and teams jump into the political fray by condemning Supreme Court abortion ruling

Two major women’s sports leagues were among the loudest voices condemning Friday’s decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to end Roe v. Wade protection for women’s reproductive freedom.

And at least one men’s team from Major League Soccer (MLS) – Orlando City SC – attacked the decision. The Orlando team’s official statement on social media was especially noteworthy coming from the home state of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, one of the nation’s leading opponents of women’s rights.

School board members 'quite shocked' as they get sucked into DeSantis' complex political arena

About two weeks ago, Brevard County school board member Jennifer Jenkins got a call from U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist’s gubernatorial campaign. It was about a potential running mate for Crist.

“They gave me a call and asked me if I would be willing to be placed on that list and considered, and, of course, I was super humbly grateful and — you know, if I’m being honest, I legitimately responded with ‘Why?'” she told the Florida Phoenix. “You know, I am just a regular person in my mind.”

Focus group of Trump voters finds none of them want him to run again -- for the first time ever

There have been increasing signs that former President Donald Trump's grip on Republican primary voters may be loosening, and the House Select Committee's hearings on January 6th may be nudging them over the edge.

In her latest New York Times column, Michelle Goldberg notes that GOP strategist Sarah Longwell has been conducting a long-term focus group of Trump voters for more than a year, and she found this week that, for the first time ever, none of the participants wanted to see him run in 2024.

'Rule or ruin': Columnist predicts Trump will suicide bomb the GOP if he's not their 2024 nominee

With polls showing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis gaining on former President Donald Trump in the preferences of Republican voters in New Hampshire, there has been speculation that the GOP might be able to successfully move on from the twice-impeached former president in 2024.

However, Politico columnist Jeff Greenfield argues that the GOP will face certain doom if it makes anyone besides Trump its nominee, for the sole reason that he will do everything in his power to sabotage a nominee that isn't him.

DeSantis said legislatures could give election to Trump, a month before Eastman

Ex-Donald Trump attorney John Eastman’s comments to Georgia legislators in December 2020 that the Florida Legislature had been prepared to adopt its own slate of presidential electors came a month after Gov. Ron DeSantis was among the first Republicans to float the idea. Two days after the Nov. 3 election, when votes were still being tallied in several states, DeSantis told Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, “I would also tell (Republicans), especially if you’re in those states that have Republican legislatures like Pennsylvania and Michigan and all these places, call your state representatives and you...

Trump will 'go nuclear' to sabotage any 2024 GOP nominee that isn't him: elections expert

Even though President Joe Biden is currently saddled with historically low approval numbers, Real Clear Politics elections analyst Sean Trende believes that he stands a better shot at getting reelected than many people realize.

The reason, Trende writes on Twitter, is that former President Donald Trump seems intent on running in 2024, and that could benefit Biden regardless of whether Trump wins the nomination.

Trump attorney links Florida to efforts to use alternate electors to undermine Biden victory

Amid the partisan turbulence of the 2020 presidential campaign, attorney John Eastman and other strategists for then-President Donald Trump were making plans to help Trump remain in office in case he did not actually win, according to evidence being gathered in Congress.

On Tuesday, Florida burst into that picture with Eastman saying in a video that Florida played a role.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Andrew Gillum, who narrowly lost to Ron DeSantis four years ago, was indicted Wednesday on federal charges of conspiracy, wire fraud and making false statements during his time as Tallahassee mayor and run for governor.
