Jan. 6 committee turns up forged documents declaring Trump the election winner in pivotal states: report

The House select committee has been investigating Donald Trump's efforts to pressure individual states to declare him the winner of the 2020 election.

Lawmakers investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection have obtained thousands of records from state officials -- including forged certificates declaring him the winner in both Arizona and Michigan -- and interviewed numerous witnesses, including the Democratic secretaries of state in each of those states, reported Politico.

Disgraced former New York Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik has been linked to Rudy Giuliani as one of those in a Trump "war room" at the Willard Hotel on Jan. 6. Kerik, who has never served in the White House or executive branch of government, is still attempting to declare executive privilege for the subpoena from the House Select Committee on the attack on the U.S. Capitol.

The privilege log documents published by Politico, range from bizarre to embarrassing. Columnist Will Bunch wrote Monday morning that one document could ultimately be the "smoking gun" to show Trump was trying to use the Insurrection Act to use the military to overturn the 2020 election.

Former U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance explained that Rudy Giuliani's colleague, Bernard Kerik, submitted documents to the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Some of those documents, however, he's attempting to claim "executive privilege" on.

Speaking to MSNBC on Saturday, Vance explained that someone who never worked in the White House can't claim executive privilege. It's the same tactic that Steve Bannon attempted and it not only didn't work, he was indicted by the Justice Department for criminal contempt.

"Bernard Kerik, the former New York City Police commissioner and ally of Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani, also provided a “privilege log” describing materials he declined to provide to the committee."

Trump seems to throw the Proud Boys under the bus for Capitol riots in new legal filing

In his effort to have a lawsuit accusing him of sparking the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol dismissed, former President Donald Trump is arguing he's not responsible for the violent actions his supporters took, Bloomberg reports.

“Speakers at political rallies do not owe a duty of care to members of Congress or Capitol Police Officers not at the rally,” Trump’s lawyer Jesse Binnall said in the Dec. 24 court filing.
