Indicted Giuliani henchmen are ‘now officially haunting’ Republican’s campaign for US Senate

The U.S. Senate campaign by Republican former Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt is facing fallout from two indicted associates of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

"Well, that didn't take long. Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman are now officially haunting Adam Laxalt's U.S. Senate campaign. This past week, Politico first reported that prosecutors plan to call Laxalt to testify in the upcoming trial of Parnas, who is charged with violating foreign donor bans in connection with contributions to 2018 state and federal political campaigns," John L. Smith reported for the Nevada Independent. "That included a pair of $5,000 contributions from Parnas running mate Fruman to Laxalt's unsuccessful run for governor."

A round of new subpoenas show the House select committee is investigating events that led up to the Jan. 6 insurrection and lawmakers have a pretty clear idea of which Donald Trump loyalists played the biggest role in the attack.

The panel requested records and testimony from former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, former White House strategist Steve Bannon, former Trump deputy chief of staff and director of social media Dan Scavino, and former Pentagon official and Trump loyalist Kashyap Patel -- and the subpoenas show lawmakers are looking beyond the insurrection, reported Rolling Stone.

Trump biographer: Courts should bar former president from filing future lawsuits

On CNN Wednesday, Trump biographer Michael D'Antonio discussed the campaign memo revealing that Trump's lawyers knew his voter fraud conspiracy theories were baseless — and argued that it might be time for courts to step in and block him from filing lawsuits at all, like his new one against his niece Mary Trump and The New York Times for revealing his tax practices.

"In many ways it's not surprising," said anchor Erica Hill. "What do you make of that, though? The knowledge was there with people who could have made it clear to those out there spewing these lies including the president, and yet here we are."

The private security force surrounding Michael Flynn was on the ground at the Capitol on Jan. 6

Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, Donald Trump's former national security advisor who was convicted of lying to the FBI about his contacts with the Russian ambassador and subsequently pardoned, emerged as one of the most high-profile inspirational figures in the effort to keep Trump in office, which culminated with the attack on the US Capitol on Jan. 6.

Flynn's private security force, a group called 1st Amendment Praetorian that was launched less than two months before the Nov. 3 election, played a key role trafficking propaganda to convince Trump's supporters that the election was stolen. The group also fielded members on the ground in Washington DC on Jan. 6, and then helped promote the revisionist falsehood that the assault on the Capitol was "staged," as insurrection apologists sought to whitewash the attempted coup.

On CNN Tuesday, Gloria Borger tore into the people around former President Donald Trump who did nothing as he and his close allies promulgated voter fraud conspiracy theories in the runup to the January 6 Capitol insurrection — even though the former president's campaign had an internal memo debunking all the lies.

"I want to start with this news in The New York Times," said anchor John Berman. "What does it say that according to this reporting, Trump campaign officials knew and they knew early on that these claims that were being made were baseless? Yet, they sat silent as these lawyers were going out and spouting them in public."
