Revealed: DeSantis was reportedly 'livid' over leaked debate memo

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was “livid” after a super PAC supporting the Republican presidential candidate leaked a debate-prep memo along with other sensitive campaign material on its website, The New York Times reports.

Shane Goldmacher and Maggie Haberman write for The Times that DeSantis “erupted over the revelation, according to people told of his reaction, even though the posting of the documents online was meant to avoid running afoul of campaign finance rules. The advice memo, pilloried as 'amateurish' within his extended orbit, was quickly taken down, along with the other documents, but the damage had been done. If he followed the advice laid out — including which rivals to hit — he would look like a puppet.”

Fox moderators pushed to ask debaters to disavow candidate's 9/11 'false flag' remark

The Lincoln Project is urging Fox News moderators at tonight’s Republican presidential debate to ask all the candidates whether they will disavow Vivek Ramaswamy’s recent statement suggesting that the Sept. 11 attacks were a false flag operation.

“I think it is legitimate to say, ‘How many police, how many federal agents were on the planes that hit the Twin Towers?’ Like, I think we want—maybe the answer is zero, probably is zero for all I know, right? I have no reason to think it was anything other than zero. But if we’re doing a comprehensive assessment of what happened on 9/11, we have a 9/11 commission, absolutely that should be an answer the public knows the answer to,” Ramaswamy said in an interview with The Atlantic.

Why Tim Scott — yes, Tim Scott! — is Trump’s biggest threat at tonight’s debate

There may yet come a day — in a month, in a year, on Ronald Reagan’s birthday — when Donald Trump, for any of several reasons, involuntarily crashes or flames out of the 2024 Republican primary as his party’s all-but-presumptive presidential nominee.

And that’s why in tonight’s first Republican presidential debate, pay acute attention — amid Chris Christie’s bellowing and Ron DeSantis’ parrying and Mike Pence’s contortionism — to a man who’s polling around 3 percent nationally.

Trump 'ignoring' Fox News' new pleas to show up for GOP debate: report

Donald Trump has made clear he won't take part in the first Republican presidential debate, but Fox News executives seem to be holding out hope he might make a surprise appearance.

Two advisers told The Daily Beast the push to persuade the former president to appear in Milwaukee has not slackened, although he's already missed the deadline to confirm participation, but "Fox & Friends" host wondered on air if Trump would pull up at the last minute in a "limousine," while a reporter agreed that might be possible.

Adam Schiff is famous for fighting Donald Trump. Why he’s not dominating California Senate race

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff received a standing ovation from Sacramento voters at a campaign stop earlier this month — but the aspiring senator spoke to his Northern California audience as if they may not know enough about him. “Let me just introduce myself,” Schiff said. “Because a lot of you know me as the guy that stood up to Donald Trump.” Schiff has much going for him in the race to replace retiring Sen. Dianne Feinstein. He’s a strong fundraiser, a D.C. Democratic star endorsed by House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, and, of course, an outspoken foe of the former president....

Trump is ineligible for office and more people are realizing it: Yale professor

If Republicans are serious about capturing the White House next year, their best bet would be to ditch Donald Trump.

That’s according to the findings of a newly published University of Pennsylvania Law School study authored by two staunch conservatives that says Trump would be ineligible to serve because of his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, Yale management professor Jeffrey Sonnenfeld writes for Just Security.

5 things to watch in first Republican presidential debate

Donald Trump’s rivals in the Republican White House race are due to convene for the first debate of the campaign Wednesday, as they jostle for position behind the front-running former president. Trump has said he will skip the Fox News showdown, joining Tucker Carlson for an interview in the same time slot and letting his commanding national lead do the rest of his talking. Still, the debate in Milwaukee should allow a small army of long-shot contenders to sell their campaigns, with the first-in-the-nation Iowa caucus more than four months away. Here are five things to watch. 1. Will Trump sho...
