Keith Ellison interview goes completely off the rails when CNN's Jake Tapper mentions Louis Farrakhan
An interview with Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MI), CNN's Jake Tapper asked about a meeting Louis Farrakhan said that he had with the Congressman. Ellison claimed that he is not a follower of Farrakhan, despite a Washington Post fact-check that claimed he was.
"I think I made myself very clear. But back to the false equivalency. I don't have any support for the individual you just mentioned stands for, nor do I agree with [President Donald] Trump's bigotry either," Ellison said. "But then again, any time somebody tries to say that something is unfair and bigoted or one time you sort of said something or somebody said you said something and then --"
Tapper interrupted to say he was a follower, but Ellison interrupted again to say he was not.
"Jake, I'm sorry. That is not true, Jake. I want to say if anyone who raises concerns about bigotry then is put in a position to have to defend themselves, then we never get to talk about bigotry an I hope that is not what your purpose is, Jake, because you've stood for -- an equal society but if you try to put me on the spot and have to explain myself -- I didn't pass a Muslim ban."
The debate went back and forth from there, with Ellison claiming he had nothing to do with Farrakhan and Tapper trying to explain it wasn't what Washington Post fact-checkers said.
