On Tuesday's edition of CNN's "OutFront," anchor Erin Burnett tore into Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) for raising a conspiracy theory to absolve former President Donald Trump at a hearing on the Capitol invasion.

"Tonight, deny, deflect and lie. Some Republicans using the first hearing on the deadly insurrection at the United States Capitol to whitewash what happened before, during, and after January 6th," said Burnett. "One of the biggest offenders, Senator Ron Johnson, who today proved there is no conspiracy theory he won't peddle to defend Trump. While questioning current and former law enforcement officials who were in charge that day, Johnson spent his time pushing a deranged theory from an alleged eyewitness."

Former Homeland Security official Elizabeth Neumann explained that there is the assumption by lawmakers that the attack on the Capitol Jan. 6 came out of nowhere. The reality is that there was so much in public view that it was assumed that there would be violence.

Testifying to Congress Tuesday, former Capitol Police chief Steven Sund said that there was no intelligence about armed insurrectionists, right-wing groups like the Oath Keepers, or the Proud Boys coming after the Capitol. It was a claim that Neumann found shocking because there were people raising alarms a week before the incident, "just based on open source intelligence."

"The View" co-host Meghan McCain argued that past accusations against President Joe Biden's budget nominee were just as bad as anything former president Donald Trump had ever done.

Neera Tanden's contentious tweets, reported retaliation against sexual harassment victims and other past actions appear likely to sink her chances of heading the White House Office of Management and Budget, and McCain said the Biden nominee is getting what she deserves.

A Capitol police officer described her harrowing battle with former president Donald Trump's supporters during a violent insurrection aimed at overturning the election.

Capt. Carneysha Mendoza was a surprise witness during U.S. Senate testimony on the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection, and she told lawmakers the former president's supporters attacked police with military-grade chemical gas that left her with possibly permanent injuries.

Andrew Weissmann, former senior prosecutor for special counsel Robert Mueller, explained that there is a lot more to the tax return documents than a simple PDF of the former president's income.

Judge Merrick Garland's attorney general hearing before the Judicial Committee Monday took a turn when Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) spoke about his confidence in the judge and that he thinks he'd make a great leader.

"I would like to end with this question and then my time is up," Booker began. "You've talked to me a lot about your thoughts about this and I've been really inspired. But it gets back to me — to your conviction in this issue, to go down, at a time that our nation needs it, as one of the great leaders when it comes to dealing with the daily, unconscionable injustices faced by some Americans and not others at the hands of law enforcement. One thing you said to me privately motivated me to believe you. I'm wondering if you can answer the question about your motivation and maybe some of your own family history in confronting hate and discrimination in American history."

NBC News justice reporter Pete Williams explained that the ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court against former President Donald Trump means "his goose is cooked."

"Is that a legal term?" MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell asked.

"The View's" Meghan McCain is angry that she doesn't know when she's going to get her vaccination while watching so many older people get theirs. During the previous administration, it was left up to the states to decide how to do the distribution of vaccines, but under President Joe Biden that has changed somewhat with vaccines being sent to public health centers and large-scale vaccine sites.

McCain argued that over the weekend Dr. Anthony Fauci refused to say whether someone could go hang out with friends and family after being vaccinated. In Israel, she said, they have a campaign called "get a shot, do a shot," saying they can go out drinking after getting their vaccine.

MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski ripped Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) for his failure of leadership during a deadly power outage in his home state.

The Texas Republican cut short his spur-of-the-moment vacation to Cancún last week under heavy criticism as winter weather left millions of his constituents without power, and he staged a photo opportunity over the weekend to demonstrate his concern for the crisis.

After a horrific week in Texas during a snowstorm and frigid temperatures, "Last Week Tonight" host John Oliver issued a rebuke of the epic mistakes Republicans have made for decades leading up to the crisis.

While Texas wasn't the only state to face record-low cold and snow, it was the only one that lost power across nearly the entire state and an overwhelming problem with water, sanitation and access to food.

CNN host Pamela Brown thinks that Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) was trying to play both sides during his appearance on "This Week" Sunday.

"Ted Cruz in Texas isn't the only Republican lawmaker trying to spin his way out of an inconvenient truth," she said. "This morning, the No. 2 Republican in the House continued to push the big election lie more than three months after the fact."

Oath Keeper Jessica Watkins' defense attorney said Saturday in a court filing that she was in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 6 to "provide security" for the speakers at Donald Trump's rally, Bloomberg News reported Sunday.

She stood about 50 feet off stage and had a much more "formal" role in the rally than a regular participant would have. Watkins' attorney explained that this is the reason that she deserves to be granted bail.
