'We are Proud Boys': Far-right gang normalized political violence, embraced by GOP as legit discourse

As the House committee investigating the January 6 Capitol insurrection is set to hold its first fall public hearing, we look at one of the key groups that helped plan and carry out the attack as part of their goal to normalize political violence, with HuffPost journalist Andy Campbell, author of the new book, “We Are Proud Boys: How a Right-Wing Street Gang Ushered In a New Era of America.” He says, “They’ve been on a parade of violence at the behest of Trump and the GOP for six years now.” Campbell recently obtained a document that gives rare insight into how the Proud Boys “meticulously” plan their rallies and how they were going to carry out a march in New York City on January 10. He says GOP rhetoric, parroted by the right-wing media, is normalizing the political violence committed by the Proud Boys and, in effect, “sanitizing them for the rest of the country.”

Ron DeSantis’s immigration stunt has annoyed Greg Abbott's allies: report

Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis whined at a GOP event last year that his fellow governor, Greg Abbott (R-TX) has it easy looking good to voters because he has a 1,254-mile border with Mexico that he can blame for all of his problems.

According to a New York Times report about the two governors, DeSantis and Abbott, the Texas governor "stole the show," from a threat that DeSantis had made earlier this year that he would bus immigrants from Florida to President Joe Biden's home in Delaware.

Despite what the president says, the pandemic is definitely not over

President Joe Biden is flat-out wrong if he thinks the pandemic is over. Although the trendlines are pointing downward, the United States still registers around 360 deaths per day from the coronavirus along with a seven-day average of 55,000 new infections, with 13,700 people currently hospitalized. Those numbers are a far cry from the earlier days of the pandemic, but that hardly means the threat is gone. Biden’s pronouncement on CBS’ “60 Minutes” that “the pandemic is over” did a disservice to his own administration’s efforts to promote getting a third booster shot with a new vaccine deemed ...
