Republican John Cornyn shoots down Trump balloon denialism — and says he believes the Air Force

WASHINGTON — Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) denied that a spy balloon from China flew over the United States at least three times during President Donald Trump's administration. Greene isn't on the intelligence committee or part of the "Gang of 8," but she's certain that the Pentagon is lying about the U.S. Air Force's report on the 2019 balloon.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) told Raw Story that he's not aligning himself with his fellow Republicans' conspiracy theories.

It's crazy!"

Boebert, Greene, Cruz, others decry ‘demonic’ Grammys

Most Grammy viewers experienced live performances from the nation’s top recording artists Sunday night, but right-wing activists saw a Satanic conspiracy theory. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., needed until Monday morning to process her disdain. “The Grammy’s featured Sam Smith’s demonic performance and was sponsored by Pfizer,” the anti-vax conspiracy theorist tweeted. She also ranted about last week’s announcement that the ironically named Satanic Temple — a “nontheistic religious organization” — planned to provide abortion assistance in New Mexico. “American Christians need to get to wo...

Nikki Haley 'embodies the collapse' of the GOP: Republican strategist

Nikki Haley "embodies" the collapse of the modern Republican Party post-Trump, said former Mitt Romney presidential chief strategist Stuart Stevens to Business Insider, according to an article released on Sunday.

"Mitt Romney's former aide blasted Nikki Haley in a recent interview over the former South Carolina governor's decision to enter the 2024 GOP presidential primary, saying she 'doesn't have anything else to do' and arguing that she is actually seeking a vice presidential slot," reported John L. Dorman. "Stuart Stevens — who was Romney's chief strategist for his 2012 White House run and also a senior advisor for the anti-Trump group the Lincoln Project — questioned Haley's motivation for running for the presidency during a February 2 interview on MSNBC."

Conservatives ridicule Marjorie Taylor Greene for urging 'average Joe' to shoot down balloon

Prominent conservatives are having a field day on social media over Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), having urged her "average Joe" followers to undertake the physically impossible task of shooting down a spy balloon sailing high in the stratosphere.
Greene tweeted Friday, "Literally every regular person I know is talking about how to shoot down the Chinese Spy Balloon. It would be great if an average Joe shot it down because China Joe won’t. Regular Americans can do everything better than the government and actually care about our country."

Greene wasn’t the only Republican serving up the bizarre idea, as Raw Story reported. But she was the only person with a Jewish space-laser theory on her resume, and some conservatives weren’t about to let her forget it.

“The responses generally highlighted the near-impossibility of actually hitting the balloon, given its altitude, and mockingly brought up her past comments about outlandish conspiracies,” the Charlotte Observer noted. One tweet of note was addressed to Greene from George a co-founder of The Lincoln Project:

Georgia GOP wants more control over prosecutors just as charges are being weighed against Trump

As Donald Trump is facing possible indictment in Fulton County, some of Georgia's most powerful Republicans want to give the state more power to control and remove district attorneys.

A pair of bills introduced Thursday by state Reps. Houston Gaines and Joseph Gullett follow up on calls from Gov. Brian Kemp and Lt. Gov. Burt Jones to bring "accountability" to local prosecutors, but the legislators insist the bill has nothing to do with the criminal investigation by district attorney Fani Willis into the former president's efforts to overturn his election loss in the state, reported the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
