Last week the Justice Department ordered the IRS to hand over former President Donald Trump's taxes to Congress.

There has been an extensive legal battle that went all the way to the Supreme Court, where the justices punted back to the lower courts to regulate and those lower courts said that Trump had to hand them over. He's still fighting it, but most legal experts say it isn't likely to work.

Last month, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) held an event at the state Capitol in Tallahassee talking about the skepticism around masks. Among those on hand as an "expert" was Mark McDonald, a Los Angeles clinical psychiatrist.

A transcript acquired by the Daily Beast after the event revealed that McDonald attacked mask-mandates, specifically singling out his home state of California as a "medical apartheid state" after they reinstituted mask mandates following another increase in cases.

Former Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) was behind funding for extensive research by government and military experts examining Unidentified Aerial Phenomena filmed over the years by the pilots. The full report published in June detailed 144 encounters that they still can't explain. All of the interviews with pilots, military specialists, scientists and officials ultimately lead to the conclusion that they have no idea what any of the sightings are.

Speaking to KPBS Midday Edition Tuesday, Reid said that he was disappointed in the report, though an admission that the government is just as clueless as Americans, is different.

Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) slept on the Capitol steps for three days to draw attention to the lapsing eviction moratorium, but her hometown newspaper in St. Louis thought her efforts were absurd.

Writing in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Tuesday, the Editorial Board wrote, "While simulating homelessness on the steps of the Capitol, Bush tweeted a demand that President Joe Biden 'extend the eviction moratorium' and that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer force legislative action. It's as if she believes those three can wave their wands and magically make things better."

U.S. District Judge Kathleen Cardone in El Paso ruled Tuesday that Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's (R) executive order targeting migrants is unconstitutional.

While the formal ruling hasn't been issued, the judge did agree to the restraining order or preliminary injunction that "the United States is likely to prevail on its claims that Texas Governor Greg Abbott's 'executive order No. GA-37 relating to the transportation of migrants during the COVID-19 disaster,' ... violates the Supremacy Clause of the United States Constitution because (1) it conflicts with, and poses an obstacle to, federal immigration law; and (2) it directly regulates the federal government's operations."

It was just a month ago that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis won a straw poll for the 2024 Republican primary among non-Trump candidates.

Weeks later, he's being attacked using the moniker "Ron DeathSantis," and being accused of leading his state "off a cliff," which may explain why the latest numbers from St. Pete Polls show a fall from grace.
