'Ron DeSantis offers white nationalism for the country club crowd': former GOP congressman

Last week, Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) fumbled some comments about white supremacy in the military. According to Tuberville, white nationalists are nothing more than Americans. Since then, he's tried to explain away the comments. First, he asked how one defines a white nationalist. He then claimed he was just being sarcastic. Finally, he pivoted to another topic, complaining about people calling supporters of Donald Trump white nationalists.

Speaking to MSNBC on Sunday, the political panel lamented that Republicans have grown increasingly accepting of radical right-wing extremism and extremists themselves.

Trump ignores Melania in 'Lunatics and Maniacs' Mother's Day post

'Just sheer paralysis': Chuck Todd roasts Republicans over their inability to dethrone Donald Trump

The race for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination officially kicked off on November 15th, 2022 when former President Donald Trump declared his candidacy for the White House. Trump was joined by three others — ex-South Carolina governor and United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and ex-Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson — throughout the first few months of 2023.

Yet there are numerous additional potential hopefuls such as former Vice President Mike Pence, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu, who like Hutchinson believe that they can mount formidable counter-campaigns to dethrone Trump as the defacto GOP frontrunner and defeat incumbent Democratic President Joe Biden in the general election.

Speaking with host Dana Bash about the dueling campaign appearances in the key primary state by the former president and Gov. Ron DeSantis pitches 'sanity' to Iowans who are 'open-minded' to leaving Trump: report

Former president Donald Trump had to cancel his Iowa event due to a tornado warning, but Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis reportedly made his bid in the state by pitching a return to "sanity" and "normalcy" to an audience that was open-minded if not eager to abandon Trump in the primary.

Trump was unable to have his own rally, but, for his part, DeSantis attended Republican Rep. Randy Feenstra’s annual family picnic in the city of Sioux Center, the most conservative corner of the state, according to CNN, which reported that Trump received 82% of the county's vote in 2020.

DeSantis’ call for state to inspect Disney rides doesn’t fly

ORLANDO, Fla. — State officials will not take over Space Mountain or other Disney World ride inspections soon, despite Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis saying it would happen. State lawmakers in the session that ended May 5 did not consider a bill for the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to assume responsibility for Disney World’s ride inspections after DeSantis proposed doing that in mid-April amid his feud with the company over Florida’s so-called “don’t say gay” law. Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson appeared to support the idea at the time, but a spokesman for his off...

Those who support Ron DeSantis are planning to move $86 million from his Florida state gubernatorial campaign to support his potential race for president, but a watchdog is questioning the legality of the move, according to a report.

'I am your retribution': These Democrats are targets of MAGA’s thirst for 'vengeance'

For many years, President Ronald Reagan was the most influential figure in the Republican Party. 2008's GOP presidential primary candidates were mocked for invoking Reagan's name incessantly during one of their debates; whether they were being asked about taxes, U.S. foreign policy, the war in Iraq or abortion, they somehow found a way to mention Reagan.

But that changed when Donald Trump won the 2016 Republican presidential nomination. Ever since then, Trump and the MAGA movement have dominated the GOP. And one of MAGA's characteristics is an obsession with revenge.
