Trump now taking direct credit for abolishment of Roe v. Wade but ‘muddling around’ on an actual abortion policy

Recognizing the vast majority of Americans remain committed to abortion as a constitutional right yet desperate to appeal to his base, Donald Trump is now taking direct credit for the U.S. Supreme Court having overturned Roe v. Wade last year while falsely claiming many in the "pro-life" movement sees a six-week ban, which his likely 2024 opponent Ron DeSantis recently signed into law, as too extreme.

"I was able to get us to the table by terminating Roe v. Wade. That's the most important thing that's ever happened for the pro-life movement,” Trump told The Messenger, a new news outlet that launched Monday.

'How employable are you?' Ron DeSantis insults students eyeing 'niche subjects' he wants to ban

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) is touting his support for legislation that was proposed in February which Higher Ed Dive explained at the time "would upend some of the longest standing conventions of American higher education and introduce an unprecedented degree of state control, like forcing institutions to abandon gender studies programs."

House Bill 999 would "ban state colleges and universities from using funds to 'promote, support, or maintain any programs or campus activities that espouse diversity, equity, or inclusion [DEI] or Critical Race Theory rhetoric.' The bill would also give the state's board of governors the ability to remove 'any major or minor that is based on or otherwise utilizes pedagogical methodology associated with Critical Theory,'" CBS News added.

'Boxed in': Why Trump’s 2020 fixation is a 'fundamental problem' for Ron DeSantis

Although Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has yet to formally announce a 2024 presidential run, the far-right MAGA Republican certainly acted like he was running when he visited Iowa over the May 13/14 weekend and hosted two different GOP events. DeSantis' team made sure that the trip was well-publicized, obviously trying to show Republican voters that he would be a better presidential nominee than Donald Trump next year.

DeSantis' cheerleaders, including author/pundit Ann Coulter, have been arguing that in the general election, he would perform much better against incumbent President Joe Biden than frontrunner Trump would. But according to Politico's Sally Goldenberg, DeSantis' electability argument has a "fundamental problem": he "can't bring himself to say" that Trump lost the 2020 election.

Watch: Tennessee parents slam school board for caving to right-wing attacks on local librarian

Carolyn Mickey, a school librarian at Alpine Crest Elementary School in the Chattanooga, Tennessee area, was shocked when a far-right group targeted her over a Mother's Day lesson that they claimed was "Leninist" indoctrination and an attack on Western civilization.

The lesson, designed to be inclusive to kids with nontraditional families, included two books: "Stella Brings the Family" about a girl with two dads, and "Mother Bruce," about a male bear who adopts a brood of goslings who call him their mother. Mickey even notified parents beforehand and allowed them to opt out, but that wasn't good enough for Moms for Liberty, who successfully pressured the school to cancel the lesson.

Former Republican congressman explains why DeSantis will never have the guts to attack Trump

Former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) explained that one of the biggest barriers to taking down Donald Trump in a 2024 Republican primary is that whoever does, risks alienating the MAGA supporters. So, they'll be sacrificing their own political careers at the same time.

Gov. Ron "DeSantis (R-FL) is really hammering, I guess, not totally in his face, but I guess in a veiled sort of way Trump on electability rather than questions of policy," said CNN host Jim Acosta. "But, you know, pro-business conservatives don't like this feud with Disney, and others have been griping about his icy personality. What do you think? Is DeSantis more electable than Trump? Does he have the potential there to be more electable?"
