Trump’s economic policy is ‘a fraud wrapped in quackery inside of a bamboozle’: Former Obama cabinet official
MSNBC anchor Lawrence O'Donnell went in-depth examining President Donald Trump's campaign promises on economics with the actual results.
O'Donnell examined Trump's campaign pledges in light of the "Trump is a fraud" op-ed published in the Washington Post.
"Compared with polling from when Trump took office, perceptions of the president’s performance have plummeted on the federal budget deficit, on improving the health-care system and on the economy," Michael Gerson wrote. "We have plumbed the shallows of his boasts. They are refuted lies. And whatever else the president may be, he is a fraud."
For analysis, O'Donnell turned to Austin Goolsby, the former chair of the Council of Economic Advisers under President Barack Obama.
"I would like to talk about some of this economic data that I've just been reviewing and it's hard to think of any area there where he hasn't made fraudulent claims," O'Donnell noted.
"Throughout the campaign, it was totally obvious that what he was saying was complete nonsense," Goolsby reminded. "It was a fraud wrapped in quackery inside of a bamboozle."
Goolsby predicted people would wise up if the economy enters a recession.
"I think a lot of those people that wanted to believe are by the end of his term going to be acting like they never knew him, they had nothing to do with him, like nobody remembers having voted for Richard Nixon," he predicted.
"And I think this is just going to keep building up and the more you write about the lies, the puffery, the things that are completely not true, the more that just closes in -- the window just closes and closes -- and finally, like I say they're going to pretend they never met him, they don't know him," he suggested.
"And they're going to say, 'I hated that guy from the beginning,'" he added.
