The longer Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell waits to hold the impeachment trial for outgoing President Donald Trump, the harder it may be for Republicans to acquit.

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough said new evidence comes almost daily linking the president to the Capitol riot, and the "Morning Joe" host said the Senate may be forced to convict Trump after he leaves office.

In an interview with historian Timothy Snyder, CNN's Ana Cabrera noted that Americans have been watching the country slowly go down the path of violence for the past several years. She asked Snyder how far America has gone "down the road" of tyranny, but Snyder explained it isn't as simple as that.

"It's not a road," he said. "It's an open field. And there are many different ways you can turn. It was never a sure thing that we will be a democracy and not a sure thing we will turn away from democracy. What I would say what happened on January 6th was in the cards a long time before January 6th. We chose a president who doesn't believe in choosing presidents. We had a man in office for four years who told small lies; medium-sized lies until he finally got to the big lie. When the big lie is told, we see that Americans are no worse, no better than anyone else. We act just like everyone else."

White House communications aide Hogan Gidley whined to Fox News on Sunday that President Donald Trump would really like to apologize to the American people for last week's insurrection at the U.S. Capitol but he can't because he doesn't have Twitter anymore.

"On the one hand, [media says] he should be censored by big tech and not be allowed to talk," Gidley said. "He also shouldn't say anything because it's divisive. And then when he doesn't say anything and can't say anything because the platform(s) have removed him, they says, 'Where's the president? Why aren't we hearing from him?'"

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough scorched his fellow conservatives for turning into the "radicals" they once professed to hate.

The "Morning Joe" host, a former Republican congressman, said the party that had once opposed leftist radicals has changed into a crazed "mob" under President Donald Trump.

The South Carolina Republican had insisted "enough is enough" in an emotional Jan. 6 speech, after the president's supporters violently stormed the U.S. Capitol, but has returned to slavishly defending Trump from impeachment after Qanon cultists accosted him at an airport.

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough says President Donald Trump seems to understand he faces a "long, cold winter" of lawsuits once he leaves office, especially after becoming the first president to be impeached twice.

The president issued a video statement condemning the violence carried out by his supporters last week at the U.S. Capitol that was aimed at overturning his election loss, and Scarborough and his "Morning Joe" co-hosts agreed that was made at the recommendation of a more competent lawyer than Rudy Giuliani.

Colbert noted that it's fitting for Trump since he does like to have seconds. "Also he's a traitor. I'm just saying, the man has an appetite. For the destruction of our institutions."

"Late Night" host Seth Meyers' take on President Donald Trump's impeachment is that regardless of how it turns out for the president, he's likely to end up as nothing more than a Trivial Pursuit question.

"So whatever else happens after today, it will be inscribed in the Congressional record and the history books and it will be a stain on Trump's name forever," Meyers said. "He is the only president to get impeached twice. In fact, it's worse than that! He's the only president to be impeached twice and lose the popular vote twice. He'll be emblazoned in history as an embarrassment and disgrace. No politician has ever been more thoroughly and more frequently repudiated by the American people."

The web is characterizing it as a hostage crisis in Washington, D.C. as Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) threatened that if impeachment doesn't end then the violence will continue.

The South Carolina official told Fox News Wednesday that if Democrats really want "unity" then they'll have to end the strive for actually enforcing "law and order." On CNN Wednesday, Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein excoriated outgoing President Donald Trump — and his allies in Congress for enabling his impeachable conduct surrounding the Capitol invasion.

"Everything Donald Trump does in his own eyes is perfect," said Bernstein. "He's deluded. He's a delusional president, the most dangerous president in our history. And it's imperative that he be restrained in a constitutional straitjacket in the next few days. And I think the people around him have moved to do that, especially the military people. They're not willing to go along with orders that would seem to be calamitous, if they come about. But he's restrained. But he's the gravest danger to the national security of the United States that any president has ever been. You cannot say that about Richard Nixon."

On Wednesday's edition of CNN's "OutFront," Harvard Law professor Laurence Tribe explained why President Donald Trump's imminent departure from office won't save him from the Senate impeachment trial for inciting violence at the Capitol.

"You've just written an op-ed in The Washington Post about this," said anchor Erin Burnett. "You say President Trump can be tried and convicted after leaving office. Why? Explain."

Lincoln Project co-founder Rick Wilson revealed in an interview with MSNBC's Joy Reid that a Republican is afraid for his life in wake of the insurrection.

According to Wilson, the Republican member said, "If I vote for impeachment I will never know when they will kill my wife, my kids, or me."

On CNN Wednesday, domestic policy correspondent Jim Acosta tore into President Donald Trump's speech to the nation following his impeachment.

"The president is trying to gaslight the country again," said Acosta. "He's lying to the country again, trying to rewrite history, trying to reimagine reality so his base, and I imagine some is that the Republicans like Mitch McConnell, might give him a pass during the impeachment trial. But no question about it, his advisers and his lawyers have been pleading with him, have been begging him to turn down the rhetoric, to tone down his language, and to come out and condemn violence. He does that in this video, but of course, this is like the arsonist-in-chief saying only you can prevent forest fires."
