'Trump knew exactly what was going on': Inside the thinking of the Jan. 6 committee

The House select committee investigating the events of Jan. 6, 2021, was convened more than a year ago. Between the work of that committee, the FBI, various criminal and civil investigations, media interviews, books and other reporting, a great deal of information is now known about what happened that day and how.

Basic facts suggest that Donald Trump, his inner circle, senior members of the Republican Party and various other right-wing operatives worked together as part of a plan to nullify the results of the 2020 presidential election and keep Trump in power, in defiance of the popular will of the American people and in violation of the law.

"Today, we are learning new details about the involvement of the ex-president's own son," said Hayes. WATCH: Rudy Giuliani being disbarred for Trump’s ‘big lie’ becomes topic of derision on the House floor

Former U.S. Associate Attorney General Rudy Giuliani's professional woes became a topic of discussion on the floor of the House of Representatives on Wednesday.

Giuliani, who also served as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of NY (SDNY), pushed Trump's "big lie" of election fraud following Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 election. The conspiracy theory played better on Fox News than in court, with Giuliani having his law license suspended in both New York and Washington, DC.

House investigators obtain emails from Trump 'coup lawyer' John Eastman: report

On Tuesday, CNN reported that investigators on the House January 6 Committee have obtained the emails from pro-Trump attorney John Eastman that he had sought to keep secret.

DOJ’s expanded coup investigation could ensnarl ‘hundreds’ — including GOP members of Congress: NYT

The federal grand jury empaneled to investigate efforts to overturn the election by supporters of Donald Trump could ensnare hundreds of people.

"According to a subpoena issued by the grand jury, prosecutors are asking for records about people who organized or spoke at several pro-Trump rallies after the election," The New York Times reported Tuesday. "The subpoena is also seeking records about anyone who provided security at those events and about those who were deemed to be 'V.I.P. attendees.' Moreover, it requests information about any members of the executive and legislative branches who may have taken part in planning or executing the rallies, or tried to 'obstruct, influence, impede or delay' the certification of the presidential election."

Trump's power over GOP could disappear in just four months: MSNBC analysts

On Monday's edition of MSNBC's "Morning Joe," the panel discussed former President Donald Trump's efforts to influence primaries to oust Republicans he perceives as disloyal to him as he came off a rally in Michigan — and how he could ultimately blow the influence he currently enjoys in the party.

"To suggest his influence has diminished in the party would be willful ignorance," said analyst Vaughn Hillyard. "One week ago he was in Georgia, two weeks ago in South Carolina. But why these states? There's races he is interested in. In South Carolina, trying to take down Nancy Mace, Tom Rice. Georgia, Brad Raffensperger, Brian Kemp. Michigan, Peter Meijer, Fred Upton. These are part of what we call the 'Big 12'. These are the GOP incumbents Trump has backed primary challengers against here. Why is this significant? He's putting his own political capital on the line like we have never seen him willfully do. The only two times he has done this prior was in 2018 in the Mark Sanford race and in the Kris Kobach race, in which he backed primary challengers. What does it mean? Over the next four months I think we will get a good taste of just how potent his influence is."

'Plot to Overturn the Election': New report shows how Trump’s lies became GOP dogma

A federal judge ruled Monday that former President Trump and his lawyer John Eastman “likely” committed multiple felonies in their bid to block certification of Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory in the 2020 election, ordering them to turn over hundreds of emails to the House committee investigating the January 6 attack on the Capitol. Despite the court order and numerous revelations coming out of the January 6 committee, some two-thirds of Republican voters believe Biden’s election was illegitimate. “The stolen election myth is animating the Republican base to this day,” says Frontline correspondent A.C. Thompson, whose new documentary, “Plot to Overturn the Election,” premieres today on PBS and tracks how lies about election fraud made their way to the center of American politics. “They believe that there has been a historic fraud that deprived Trump of his right to rule this country.”
