Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) blamed Democrats for "trying to pull a fast one" on Americans, but it's McConnell who is lying to Americans while he tries to do whatever it takes to kill $2,000 checks, according to CNN's Jake Tapper.

MSNBC's Mike Barnicle warned the United States faced an unprecedented threat in the next three weeks from a defeated and angry President Donald Trump.

The "Morning Joe" contributor fears the president will take out his rage on the nation's people and democratic institutions as his attempts to undo his election loss fail.

On CNN Tuesday, outgoing President Donald Trump's former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci outlined how he believes the president will spend his final days in office.

"The last two weeks of the administration, there will be a series of ridiculous pardons, and a series of nefarious neglect, and activities related to setting President Trump and his family for the post-presidency, and some of it will be related to fundraising and some will be pardons with those pardons being tied to something in the future," said Scaramucci. "It is terrible."

"If you don't deliver the goods, people will eventually catch on," President Donald Trump's ghostwriter penned in The Art of the Deal. Over the course of four years, Trump could have used a little of his own advice because over the course of the past four years, he's failed in every respect.

Substituting for MSNBC host Chris Hayes, journalist, commentator and Peacock host Mehdi Hasan walked through the sad and pathetic list of every deal that Trump attempted. The only successful deals turned out to be ones negotiated by someone else in his Cabinet.

On MSNBC Tuesday, anchor Mehdi Hasan tore into Senate Republicans, noting that the top ten richest of them either oppose the increased stimulus, or are only now coming around to it to echo outgoing President Donald Trump.

"In a year when America's billionaires grew their wealth by a trillion dollars, McConnell and his merry band of multimillionaire GOP colleagues in the Senate denied an attempt to send $2,000 checks to ordinary Americans," said Hasan. "McConnell blocked the relief measure from coming to the Senate floor for a vote, even though it passed in the House, even though the Republican president is on board with it, even though a majority of Americans, including a majority of Republicans, support it. But the Majority Leader and his super-wealthy friends said no."

On CNN Tuesday, former National Security Adviser John Bolton tore into outgoing President Donald Trump for urging Senate Republicans to try to block the congressional certification of President-elect Joe Biden's victory — and warned Republicans against heeding his call.

"Let me ask you this," said anchor Jim Acosta. "The New York Post says by that calling on Republicans to overturn the election ... the president is, quote, 'cheering for an undemocratic coup.' Do you agree that when Republicans — some Republicans join forces on Jan. 6th in [an] attempt to overturn the election, whether or not it is ultimately successful, that they are cheering on a coup attempt? Is this like a coup attempt, you think?"

On CNN Tuesday, anchor Jim Acosta tore into the Trump administration following reports that just 2 million people have been vaccinated, only 10 percent of the government's goal by the end of the year.

"I spoke with a member of the advisory committee, and she said part of it is how much was left up to the states," said Acosta. "President Trump seems to be tweeting exactly that. He's being defensive about this and saying, 'It is up to the States to distribute the vaccines once brought to the designated area by the Federal Government. We have not only developed them and put up the money to move the process along quickly but gotten them to the states.'"

MSNBC's Donny Deutsch welcomed the time when President Donald Trump's mood swings were no longer newsworthy.

The "Morning Joe" regular predicted Trump would quickly lose his grip on the Republican Party once he leaves office next month, even if he continues to draw attention to himself on TV and social media.

President Donald Trump pointlessly inflicted "several days of chaos" on millions of Americans before signing a COVID-19 relief bill he had threatened to veto, according to political reporters.

Associated Press reporter Jonathan Lemire, filling in as guest co-host for MSNBC's "Morning Joe," said the president ended up getting none of the changes he had demanded after the bill passed last week.

While Americans continue to suffer desperately amid a recession and COVID-19 pandemic, President Donald Trump spent the holidays playing golf. After vetoing the National Defense Authorization Act, Trump said that he was sending the COVID-19 stimulus and omnibus spending bill back to Congress because he wanted larger Americans' payments.

"What we expect of our presidents is to have a steady hand on the tiller guiding the ship of state to safety," said conservative commentator David Gergen. "And here we have a president who is acting like a drunken sailor on the bridge. He's lurching in all sorts of directions and leaving millions of Americans uncertain about where their next dollars are going to come from to put food on the table, to stay in the homes they have, to keep their cars, pay mortgages. All these things are in flux right now."

Oklahoma Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) swore that the reason he would support Donald Trump's veto of the Defense Department spending bill is that he trusts the president to make decisions about the military. But when probed on the real reason, he struggled to answer.

Speaking to CNN's Dana Bash, Mullin was asked if the real reason was that his state voted overwhelmingly for Trump in the 2020 election.
