Trump's supporters protesting outside courthouse have no idea what's actually going on: legal experts

Around the Georgia courthouse in Fulton County, Donald Trump's supporters have gathered to protest – but they aren't exactly certain what they're protesting, Georgia law experts said.

Speaking to Vanity Fair's "The Hive" podcast, Georgia lawyer Anna Bower and Georgia law professor Anthony Michael Kreis expressed their frustration about the "ignorance on purpose" that is downplaying the seriousness of the crimes in Trump's indictment.

Exposed: Trump-loving GOP candidate's anti-Trump tweets come back to haunt him

Ohio Republican candidate Bernie Moreno has changed his tune on a lot of topics since trying to get elected to the U.S. Senate.

The wealthy Cleveland auto dealer ran for Senate in 2022 but lost in the GOP primary. Now he's running again for 2024 – and is desperately selling himself as a big fan of former President Donald Trump.

This GOP senator is facing intense MAGA pressure to endorse Trump

As Donald Trump faces four criminal indictments, some Republicans are holding off on making an endorsement in the 2024 GOP presidential primary. But the former president's most ardent loyalists are pressuring Republicans to endorse him. Far-right conspiracy theorist and 2022 Arizona GOP gubernatorial nominee Kari Lake has even gone so far as to say that her party should cancel its presidential primary altogether and nominate Trump immediately.

The Daily Beast cites Sen. Katie Britt (R-Alabama) as an example of a Republican who is facing intense pressure from MAGA Republicans to endorse Trump. Britt was appointed to the Republican National Committee Advisory Council's board by RNC Chair Ronna Romney McDaniel, and sources told the Beast that Britt was asked to remain neutral in the 2024 primary.

James Comer's 'untethered' Hunter Biden claims destroyed by WaPo fact-checker

Rep. James Comer (R-KY) has been making the rounds on TV, insinuating that his Republican investigators on the House Oversight Committee are unearthing a vast bribery scheme orchestrated by President Joe Biden through his family. But in reality, the committee's own documents don't say anything of the sort, wrote Washington Post Fact-Checker's Glenn Kessler on Thursday.

The memos from the committee, which cite a trove of bank records and witness testimony, "are written in a partisan manner — ignoring or playing down contrary information — but an interesting pattern has emerged," wrote Kessler.

'Disavow Trump and let him face justice': Kevin McCarthy lit up by local paper

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was called out by the editorial board of a key California paper for running to the defense of Donald Trump once again after his fourth indictment -- and the paper urged him to "dump" the former president and let him face the music in the courtrooms.

According to the Sacramento Bee editorial board, McCarthy jumped into the fray once again after the former president was indicted under RICO charges in Georgia by taking to social media and proclaiming, "Justice should be blind, but Biden has weaponized government against his leading political opponent to interfere in the 2024 election. Now a radical DA in Georgia is following Biden’s lead by attacking President Trump and using it to fundraise her political career. Americans see through this desperate sham.”

As the editors pointed out, the top Republican in the House was "wrong on many levels."

"Trump is not the president. The man who beat him fairly, Democrat Joe Biden, is leading the nation. Biden had nothing to do with bringing the Georgia case. That was the decision of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. As for 'weaponizing,' McCarthy, like his fellow Americans, has yet to hear all the evidence in the two federal and two state cases against Trump," they accused.

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?

As they noted, McCarthy has had multiple previous opportunities to cut Trump loose after two impeachments and his earlier indictments but has lacked the will to stand up for the rule of law.

George Santos could be a major GOP liability in 2024: Commentator

Efforts to expel Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) from Congress stalled when Republicans in May referred a Democratic-led expulsion resolution to the Ethics Committee, effectively shielding GOP House members from having to vote on the matter.

The measure followed Santos’ 13-count indictment over allegations he misled donors and stole from his campaign. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.

By Jorge Garcia and Sandra Stojanovic LAHAINA, Hawaii (Reuters) -U.S. President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden will travel to Hawaii next week to survey the devastation left in the wake of the deadly wildfires that ravaged the Maui resort town of Lahaina last week, the White House said on Wednesday. ‘Straight up communism’: Nikki Haley, Marjorie Taylor Greene increasingly share similar rhetoric to attack Democrats

Fifth-place Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley is ramping up her rhetoric ahead of next week's first GOP presidential debate, sharpening her spear to target Democrats and President Joe Biden with charges of communism, just as top Trump supporter U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has been doing.

Haley, the former Trump UN Ambassador, attempted to paint herself as a reasonable Republican when she was the governor of South Carolina, but is now rated a "Hard Core Conservative" by OnTheIssues. Over the past few years she has positioned herself as tough on China, gradually but increasingly weaving remarks attacking "Communist China," and the "Chinese Communist Party" into issues here at home.

Biden to visit Hawaii as wildfire toll tops 100

President Joe Biden will head to fire-ravaged Hawaii next week to meet with survivors and first responders still hunting for victims, the White House said Wednesday, as the death toll from the devastating blazes surpassed 100.

The fire, which levelled the historic town of Lahaina on Maui, is the deadliest in the United States for more than a century, and state Governor Josh Green has repeatedly warned the death toll could yet grow significantly.

'Toxic': GOP insiders say Trump has destroyed the Georgia party

Many Republicans in Georgia blame former President Donald Trump for twice costing them winnable Senate races: In 2020, when his talk of widespread voter fraud depressed Republican voter turnout, and in 2022, when hand-picked Senate candidate Herschel Walker went down in flames against Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA).

And on top of all this, Trump has now been indicted in the Peach State for his efforts to overturn his loss to President Joe Biden, which The Daily Beast reports has created a "toxic" dynamic for the Georgia Republican Party heading into the 2024 presidential election.

'A net loser -- period': GOP strategists fear Trump has already cost them Georgia again in 2024

Republican strategists who spoke with NBC News expressed fears that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis' indictment of former President Donald Trump would effectively sink his hopes of recapturing the Peach State in 2024.

While Trump's position within the Republican primary may be strengthened by every new set of criminal charges leveled against him, Georgia Republicans fear that such cases will harm them with the swing voters who split their tickets by supporting Republican Gov. Brian Kemp in 2022 while also backing Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) over election-denying GOP rival Herschel Walker.

'This is not normal!' Adam Kinzinger staffer stunned by GOP rivals' reluctance to attack Trump

A staffer for former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) on Wednesday expressed astonishment that so few of former President Donald Trump's Republican rivals have been willing to criticize him, even after getting indicted on four separate occasions.

Appearing on CNN, Maura Gillespie said it was amazing to see a political candidate to be seemingly weighed down by so many and yet not catch any criticism for it from candidates who were running for the same office.

'Drop the fake case!' Trump grasps at straws to claim his fake electors scheme was legal

Donald Trump trotted out another defense of his post-election conduct after he was indicted in Georgia on racketeering charges related to his scheme to remain in office.

Fulton County prosecutors said the former president and his lawyers conspired to have 16 Republicans serve as fake electors despite Trump's loss in the state, and he latched on to a theory floated by Newsmax host Greg Kelly.
