Ron DeSantis hits back at ‘woke’ Disney over Florida lawsuit

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis hit back at Disney on Thursday, accusing the “woke” theme park giant of angling for special treatment from his state. Speaking in Israel as he continues an international trade trip, the Florida governor and potential Republican presidential candidate claimed he was only leveling the playing field when he launched a feud with the Sunshine state’s biggest tourism draw, which is also one of the state’s biggest private employers. “They’re upset that they are actually having to live by the same rules as everybody else,” DeSantis said in Jerusalem. “The days of putting one ...

This former Republican strategist believes Tucker Carlson could be the GOP’s 2024 presidential nominee

The Lincoln Project's Rick Wilson, a former GOP strategist and scathing critic of former President Donald Trump and the MAGA movement, has not been bullish on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as a 2024 presidential candidate. Wilson has been predicting that if DeSantis enters next year's Republican presidential primary, Trump will crush him.

To firebrand author Ann Coulter, the Daily Wire's Ben Shapiro and other DeSantis cheerleaders, DeSantis is the Republican Party's best chance to move on from Trump. But Wilson, in a November 2022 interview with The Guardian, predicted that when all is said and done, the GOP will "bend the knee" to Trump and give him their 2024 presidential nomination. And when Trump was indicted on 34 criminal counts stemming from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, Jr.'s investigation of the Trump Organization and alleged hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels, Wilson predicted that Republicans would view Trump as a martyr and rally around the ex-president.

Disney is suing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) after his appointed board moved to void a contract preserving Disney's self-governing powers over the special taxing district for the Walt Disney World resort complex — a move the company alleges is political retaliation for its criticism of DeSantis' anti-LGBTQ legislation.

And the company has a very good chance of succeeding in its battle with the governor, Republican election lawyer Ben Ginsberg suggested on CNN Wednesday.

Legislation DeSantis wanted to make it easier to sue for defamation appears to be dead

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Gov. Ron DeSantis’ goal of passing legislation that would rewrite federal defamation law and make it easier to sue critics appears dead for the legislative session, but the author of the bill said he will be back to try it again next year. “There’s just not enough time, and I have too much stuff on my plate,’’ said Rep. Alex Andrade, R-Pensacola, the House sponsor of HB 991 as lawmakers approach the final week of the annual 60-day that ends May 5. The companion measure, SB 1220, is also dead, he said, as time ran out before the bills could be heard in their final committees...

DeSantis' 'deathmatch with Mickey Mouse' likely to crash and burn with voters: analyst

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was sued by Disney on Wednesday after a board staffed with his appointees tried to throw out an agreement the company made with the previous board preserving their power over a special taxing district. The company alleges that it is part of a long-running campaign of political revenge for speaking out against DeSantis' bill that effectively purges any mention of LGBTQ people from public schools.

All of this shows he is not ready to sell himself as a presidential candidate to voters, argued political analyst Ron Brownstein on CNN's "The Situation Room."
