MSNBC's Joe Scarborough burned Republican lawmakers for avoiding a moment of silence for Capitol police officers who died as a result of the Jan. 6 insurrection.

Only one GOP lawmaker, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), showed up for the ceremony marking the one-year anniversary, and she was joined by her father, former vice president Dick Cheney, and the "Morning Joe" host blasted her Republican colleagues for siding with Donald Trump's lies against democracy.

Supporters of President Donald Trump have attempted to lionize Capitol attacker Ashli Babbitt in wake of the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. One Fox News host went so far as to lash out at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for refusing to mention Ashli Babbitt as part of the moment of silence for law enforcement who died in the wake of the attack.

Calling them "our heroes," Pelosi listed the names of those officers, which prompted Fox News host Harris Faulkner to say Pelosi didn't count the "fifth person killed that day." Presumably, Faulkner means Babbitt.

MSNBC panelists and host Stephanie Ruhle noted that the speech from President Joe Biden about Jan. 6 was his most emphatic, clearest and forceful dissection of Donald Trump's lies.

Speaking Thursday, Biden said, "No one can place a dagger on the throat of democracy."

MSNBC reporter Garrett Haake called out Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) for his denial of facts about the Jan. 6 attack.

"It's the same date on both of their calendars but they are looking at it almost entirely differently other than that," Haake said of Democrats and Republicans. "As all the events today were organized by Democratic leadership, the president of the United States on down to the Speaker of the House with events all day long and they will be attended by almost exclusively Democrats, no congressional House Republicans except for perhaps Liz Cheney (R-WY) are expected to attend. Kevin McCarthy isn't even in Washington, D.C. today. No Senate Republicans to my knowledge are expected to attend any of these events, although many of them, a majority of that conference will be at the funeral for one of their own former Georgia Sen. Johnny Isakson down in Georgia."

Speaking to "The Today Show" on the Jan. 6 anniversary, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) said that she thinks the United States was "very close" to being overthrown by Donald Trump and his cadre of associates.

"Our institutions held, but they only held because of the people who were willing to stand up against the pressure from former President Trump, people at his own Department of Justice who stood up to him. Elected officials at the state level who stood up to him and the law enforcement officers here at the Capitol," said Cheney.

Republicans are worried about Donald Trump running again for president in 2024 because they're afraid that will fire up Democratic voters -- and right-wing voters -- against them.

Fewer than half of GOP voters believe the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection was very violent, but the vast majority of Democrats do -- and two-thirds of all Americans agree, and journalist David Drucker revealed that Republicans fear that disconnect could hurt candidates once they reach a general election.
