Infamous Capitol rioter's request to delay trial slammed by prosecutors: 'He's failed to show any compelling reason'

An Arkansas state man who sought another continuance in his case over charges related to his alleged participation in the January 6 Capitol riot got a response from prosecutors this week, who said he didn't offer a compelling reason for his request, KARK reports.

Richard Barnett, 61, is set to go on trial January 9. The government's response stated that Barnett “has failed to meet his burden to identify any compelling reason for the requested continuance.”

The View ridicules Lauren Boebert's flop on MSNBC as '10 minutes of hilarity'

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) went on MSNBC at the 11 o'clock hour with Stephanie Ruhle where she struggled to keep up with the hosts fact-checks. The interview came after Boebert appeared on the Fox network, where Sean Hannity complained that he felt like he was talking to a liberal because Boebert refused to be a Republican team player.

"Uhhh.... okay," Goldberg said after watching the clip of the interview in which Boebert is called out for only having 20 votes on her side. She turned to colleague Alyssa Farah Griffin, who previously served in Donald Trump's White House before abandoning him.

Trump's 'shrunken clout' on full display as his push for McCarthy falls flat: conservative

Writing for The Bulwark on Thursday, conservative analyst Charlie Sykes mocked former President Donald Trump for his lack of power and influence over the far-right members in Congress, as they continue to block GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from securing the votes for Speaker — the first time this has happened to a House party leader in 100 years.

"First, a caveat: Trump is not irrelevant, because he still has the power to destroy. A single statement on his fail-site could kill all of McCarthy’s ambitions," wrote Sykes. "But his shrunken clout was remarkably obvious yesterday. Trump threw his weight behind His Kevin, only to be blown off by his most loyal supporters."

The day democracy was tested: A deep dive into Trump's attempted coup on January 6

It was obvious that Donald Trump was likely to lose the 2020 presidential election at 11:20 p.m. EST on election night, when the Fox News Decision Desk called Arizona for Joe Biden.

The Copper State had gone Democratic just once since 1948, when Bill Clinton won by two points in his 1996 landslide. Without Arizona, Trump would have to win three of the five states left (Georgia, Nevada, and the Blue Wall states—Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania).

The Blue Wall states had supported Democratic candidates in every presidential election since 1992 except for the outlier 2016 race in which Trump scraped by with the help of voter suppression, Jill Stein, Cambridge Analytica, Julian Assange, James Comey, and Russia’s 50,000+ fake Twitter accounts.

Trump lost his 'fear factor' as Freedom Caucus no longer takes his orders: Maggie Haberman

On CNN Wednesday, New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman broke down how former President Donald Trump has lost his once-ironclad grip on House Republican lawmakers.

This comes as Trump goes to bat for GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as he tries to clinch the Speakership, but a double-digit contingent of Republicans — the vast majority of whom were endorsed by Trump and elected on a Trump-like platform — repeatedly block him from the necessary margin he needs to win.

'You're not answering my question!' Lauren Boebert gets unexpected grilling from Sean Hannity

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) on Wednesday night found herself on the end of an unexpected grilling from Fox News host Sean Hannity.

Hannity, who has been critical of efforts of rebellious House Republicans to oust leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), asked Boebert why McCarthy should take her advice and drop out of the race to be House Speaker when he has 200 votes behind him, while Boebert and her rebels only count 20.

'Fake and Fraudulent!' Trump rages after fake quote goes around saying he is dumping McCarthy

On Wednesday, former President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform to angrily debunk a fake press statement claiming he had rescinded his endorsement of Kevin McCarthy for House Speaker in favor of Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL).

"I have always supported Byron Donalds, have consistently Endorsed him for Congress and, in fact, feel that I was a primary reason he entered politics in the first place," wrote Trump. "He is a young man with a great future! With that all being said, the story and statement that was just put out that I endorsed Byron for Speaker of the House is Fake and Fraudulent. He will have his day, and it will be a big one, but not now!"

Nicolle Wallace attacks House GOP holdouts: 'They’re not rebels — they’re coup plotters, insurrectionists, anarchists'

Many of the Republican commentators on MSNBC have been talking about the 20 Republicans that are against Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) becoming the Speaker of the House by calling them "rebels." But host Nicolle Wallace refused to allow that word to be the one used for many of the far right.

"Let's be a little more blunt than that," Wallace began. "They're not rebels. I'm not going to use that word. They're coup plotters, 19 House Republicans were in the Roosevelt Room, which is four steps away from the Oval Office helping Donald Trump plan overturn the results of the 2016 election, which sent all of them back! Their names were on all the ballots there were trying to destroy and denigrate and smear, and call into question."

Boebert calls out Trump on the House floor: You need to tell McCarthy to withdraw

During her speech, Boebert acknowledged that McCarthy gave into many of her and her allies' demands for rule changes -- but then said McCarthy was not a "true leader" because he didn't come up with the rule changes first.

'The GOP is irretrievably broken': Critics react as House adjourns after McCarthy fails to win Speakership

In a signal of what the U.S. House of Representatives could look for like the next two years, the chamber adjourned Tuesday evening after GOP Congressman Kevin McCarthy repeatedly failed to secure the 218 votes needed to become the next speaker due to a revolt by several far-right Republicans.

During the third round of voting, the California Republican received only 202 votes. Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla). joined with the 19 other Republicans who had backed Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) in the second round, while Democrats maintained their support for Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.).
