U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) on Thursday announced she has filed a bill that would eliminate the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). One hour later in a spottily-attended press conference Greene angrily attacked President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, whom she falsely accused of allowing the U.S. southern border to be "wide open" to allow drug trafficking.

"President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are in business with the cartels," Greene declared, lying to reporters. "They are in business with the criminals. Because their border policies, of ripping our southern border wide open is allowing the cartels to get rich beyond their wildest dreams, as they traffic humans and drugs across our border."

On Thursday, WDIV reported that a man has been hospitalized with serious head injuries after a suspected hate-motivated assault in the Detroit area.

"Anthony Hamilton is traumatized after a vicious assault that landed his partner, Michael Hall, in the ICU at McLaren Macomb Hospital," reported Shawn Ley and Dane Kelly. "It happened Tuesday night at a shopping center near Crocker Boulevard and 16 Mile Road. Hamilton said he and and Hall were riding scooters home from work and a car pulled up with the driver furious. Hamilton said the driver yelled slurs at the two and followed them for a while before the man exited the white sedan and took a swing at Hall."

On CNN Thursday, anchor Erin Burnett tore into Republican lawmakers who are embracing a conspiracy theory, most recently embraced by Fox News host Tucker Carlson, that the Capitol riot was a false flag facilitated by FBI agents.

"Tucker Carlson is now saying the FBI was part of the riot guilty of assaulting America's Capitol?" said Burnett. "This is an incredible thing to say. It is incredibly irresponsible. Of course, members of Congress who refuse to admit their actions and Trump actions leading up to January 6th, were the real cause of the insurrection that day, and they have picked up on this new, baseless theory, rushing to it."

Over the years, left-wing author Noam Chomsky has been vehemently critical of both Democrats and Republicans, slamming the United States' two major political parties as servants of Wall Street, big business and the 1%. But during an interview with Truthout's C.J. Polychroniou published on June 16, Chomsky's criticism of the GOP went beyond his usual critiques of conservative economic policy. The Philadelphia-born Chomsky, now 92, argued that big chunks of the modern Republican Party have become "proto-fascist."

"The fascist symptoms are there, including extreme racism, violence, worship of the leader — sent by God, according to former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo — immersion in a world of 'alternative facts' and a frenzy of irrationality," Chomsky warned. "Also in other ways, such as the extraordinary efforts in Republican-run states to suppress teaching in schools that doesn't conform to their White supremacist doctrines."

In a very strange excuse this week, Florida Republican Party Executive Director Helen Aguirre Ferré claimed there was a "typo" to blame for her accusation that all 2022 Democrats in her state were anti-Semitic, Politico reported.

"While @GovRonDeSantis works on policies and signs legislation in support of Florida's Jewish communities, Pelosi calls an anti semitic, @CharlieCrist, a valued leader. Crist, @valdemings & @NikkiFried won't stand up to Pelosi doing nothing to defend Florida's Jewish community," (sic) the now-deleted tweet said.

During a House Oversight Committee hearing on June 15, Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona had a lot to say about Ashli Babbitt, a Capitol rioter who was killed on January 6. Gosar, a far-right Trump supporter and GOP conspiracy theorist of the Marjorie Taylor Greene/Lauren Boebert variety, said that Babbitt was "executed" by police who were "lying in wait" for her. And two conservative Republicans who are calling Gosar out are Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois and Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming.

During the hearing, Gosar told FBI Director Christopher Wray, "It's disturbing. The Capitol police officer that did this shooting appeared to be hiding, lying in wait and then gave no warning before killing her."

The Independent noted one particular revelation from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's (R-GA) latest attack on Dr. Anthony Fauci — she refuses to admit whether or not she's been vaccinated against COVID-19.

Greene has spent the better part of the past year spreading conspiracy theories. After emails were released showing Fauci didn't have anything incriminating, she spread suspicion, deciding to call for his firing anyway. But in part of that effort, Greene was asked if she had gotten the vaccine to protect herself against the virus.
