Former Republican congressman downplays his Jan. 6 revelations in new book after committee members get mad

The Washington Post reported over the weekend that staff and officials on the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on Congress were not happy with former Rep. Denver Riggleman (R-VA), who was working on the committee as a staffer until April 2022.

While officials like Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) and Rep. Zoe Lofgren have indicated that they followed up on everything Riggleman said and that there was not a lot of news in his book, behind the scenes it was another matter. According to former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO), members are "furious" with Riggleman.

DeSantis official scrubs old tweets attacking OAN after network head cuts his boss a check: report

On Monday, The Daily Beast reported that a communications official for Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) appears to have scrubbed old tweets attacking the far-right One America News Network (OAN) — just days after the head of the network cut a $20,000 campaign donation to DeSantis' political action committee.

"DeSantis’ deputy spokesperson Jeremy Redfern — an outspoken Twitter presence — has a history of relentlessly trashing the MAGA cable outlet, especially after the Capitol insurrection," reported Justin Baragona. "'OAN. The most trusted leader in Fake News,' Redfern posted on Jan. 6, 2021, reacting to a Twitter user sharing an One America News graphic claiming Trump won in a landslide. 'This is an OAN reporter. She is delusional,' he tweeted two weeks later in response to then-OAN host Christina Bobb’s claim that 'Biden will never be president.' (Bobb eventually ditched OAN to work for Trump.)"

Here's why Trump should want lots of people to run against him in the 2024 primary

Though former President Donald Trump has not officially declared his candidacy for 2024 yet, it is widely expected he will run to reclaim his old office. One problem he may have to face in the process is challengers for the nomination, and he appears to be aware of this — New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman revealed that Trump is privately blasting Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, thought to have presidential ambitions, as "fat" and "whiny."

However, wrote Philip Bump for The Washington Post on Monday, Trump might actually benefit from DeSantis running to challenge him in 2024 — and a couple of dozen others along with him.

Investigators want evidence Roger Stone created 'line of communication' from White House to extremists: Former prosecutor

On Monday's edition of CNN's "The Situation Room," former federal prosecutor Elie Honig responded to CNN's newly-obtained clips from the House January 6 Committee of longtime Donald Trump ally Roger Stone's activity in the months before January 6, likely to be aired at the committee's next hearing on Wednesday.

The new clip, obtained by Danish filmmakers in the weeks before the attack, shows Stone predicting Trump would plot to stay in power in the event of an election loss, and even a moment where he said, “F**k the voting, let’s get right to the violence. Shoot to kill, see an antifa, shoot to kill. F**k ’em. Done with this bullsh*t.” He immediately said he was joking.

Alabama county finally admits it wasn't a good idea to jail pregnant women to protect a fetus

Last month, Etowah County in Alabama was exposed for putting pregnant women and women who'd just given birth in jail if they were charged with a crime. Thus far, ten women have been put in jail in the past three months and their lawyers took it to court on the grounds that it was unconstitutional, reported AL.com. That is finally changing, however.

One of the women, Ashley Banks, was charged with possession of marijuana and confessed to smoking cannabis two days earlier. She was immediately charged with "chemical endangerment of a child" and told she would only be allowed out of jail if she entered a drug rehabilitation facility and paid $10,000. She's not a drug addict, however, so no rehab center would accept her unless she lied that she was addicted to something. She has been evaluated twice.

J6 committee members are 'furious' at Denver Riggleman because they've not had any leaks thus far: former Senator

Former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) said that she is hearing that the members of the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on Congress and attempt to overthrow the election have operated without any leaks thus far. That has changed with the announcement of former Rep. Denver Riggleman's (R-VA) book, which will be released on Tuesday.

MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace said on Monday that thus far members haven't shown a lot of frustration when asked about Riggleman. Speaking to NBC News, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) said that the committee is well aware of the calls that happened between the White House and insurrectionists. Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) told CNN the same thing, noting that the committee has investigated every one of Riggleman's connections detailed in the intelligence he collected.

John Oliver mocks Ron DeSantis

"Last Week Tonight" host John Oliver started off his show mocking Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) for being forced to steal migrants who came into Texas to deploy his plot to deport immigrants.

Both the Fox network and Republicans have desperately tried to turn immigration into a huge issue for the 2022 midterm election at a time when most Americans actually care about other things like democracy or women's liberty and rights.

GOP's new list of policy is heavy on slogans but short on solutions: columnist

In 1994, the Republican Party announced a "Contract with America" which was not only a list of promises but a "blueprint for governing," wrote Washington Post columnist Karen Tumulty.

In 2006, when Democrats were about to take over the House they announced their own list of promises, which was a list of 10 laws they promised to pass if enough were elected to take over the House.

Republicans benefit more from the problem than finding solutions: Pete Buttigieg

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg spoke to the Texas Tribune Festival about the crisis of asylum seekers coming in from Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua.

Speaking to the group in Austin, Texas over the weekend, he explained that the reason that Republicans want to talk so much about problems at the border is that they gain more by there not being a solution than if there was one.

Ron DeSantis’s immigration stunt has annoyed Greg Abbott's allies: report

Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis whined at a GOP event last year that his fellow governor, Greg Abbott (R-TX) has it easy looking good to voters because he has a 1,254-mile border with Mexico that he can blame for all of his problems.

According to a New York Times report about the two governors, DeSantis and Abbott, the Texas governor "stole the show," from a threat that DeSantis had made earlier this year that he would bus immigrants from Florida to President Joe Biden's home in Delaware.

Kash Patel is among those that Donald Trump appointed to be his representative to the National Archives. Patel revealed after the FBI search warrant was executed on Mar-a-Lago that he was going to post all of the documents that the FBI took to his own personal website.
