Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) gave up his safe House seat to run for Texas attorney general, coming up short and not advancing into the runoff. His final year in office, Gohmert has been pushing for "justice" for those accused of attacking Congress on Jan. 6 in an attempt to overthrow the government and stop the certification of the 2020 election.

Speaking on the House steps on Wednesday, Gohmert told a collection of press members that he was grateful the GOP stopped Merrick Garland from being appointed to the Supreme Court. It's Garland, he claimed, who is allowing the abuse of Jan. 6 defendants in D.C. jails.

The wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is continuing to be exposed for her pro-Trump activism, but a recent report revealed that she was once part of a cult. After being "deprogrammed," as she described, Thomas became an advocate against such groups.

Associates of Mrs. Thomas are concerned, however, that in the past few years, she has been sucked in once more after she's been linked to QAnon, which some are also describing as a kind of right-wing cult.

An investigative reporter who recently spent time with a Justice Department official said he was "optimistic" that former President Donald Trump and his allies will be held accountable for their attack on democracy.

David Rohde, the online news director for The New Yorker, told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" that the House select committee hearings were producing important evidence that could deliver a political and legal blow to the former president.

A recent report revealed some of the harrowing final days of former President Donald Trump's White House as the president attempted to use the power of the Justice Department to try and stay in office.

According to the report, there were fights among top government lawyers about whether Trump could replace the acting attorney general with a hand-picked choice who would ultimately act on the election. There were threats of resignation and screaming matches in the Oval Office.

Veteran sports broadcaster Bob Costas excoriated pro golfer Phil Mickelson for accepting an offer to join the Saudi-funded LIV Golf league.

The golf Hall of Famer reportedly accepted $200 million to join the league funded by Saudi Arabia, but Costas told CNN's "New Day" that Mickelson had destroyed his legacy by signing off on the kingdom's civil rights abuses.

A key piece of the second public hearing of the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack and the 2020 election overthrow attempts was that former Mayor Rudy Giuliani spent a lot of time promoting conspiracy theories and giving advice to former President Donald Trump. Amid those sessions, Trump advisers confessed under oath that he appeared to be intoxicated.

"Late-Night" host Seth Meyers had a favorite person who was asked about Giuliani, however: Jared Kushner.

In an epic debate, Republican commentator Scott Jennings was called out to his face by CNN analyst Kasie Hunt.

Speaking about the second of hearings for the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 election and conspiracy to overthrow the 2020 election, Jennings tried the "both candidates" approach to attacking the presumptive presidential candidates for 2024.

The evening after the second public House Select Committee hearing on the Jan. 6 attack on Congress and the 2020 election, MSNBC hosts cited a clip of Rep. Liz Cheney's (R-WY) comments that could indicate some of Donald Trump's early plots to overthrow the election.

"The president understood even before the election that many more [Joe] Biden voters had voted by mail because President Trump ignored the advice from his campaign experts and told his supporters only to vote in person," said Cheney. "Donald Trump knew before the election that the counting of those mail-in ballots in several states would not begin until late in the day, and would not be complete for multiple days. This was expected, reported, and widely known. You will also hear testimony that President Trump rejected the advice of his campaign experts on election night. And instead, followed the course or recommendations by an apparently inebriated Rudy Giuliani, to just claim he won, and insist that the vote counting stop."

Former President Donald Trump is being mocked and attacked online after issuing a 12-page statement that is partly a typical Trump rant but follows with a case his campaign has made that questions nebulous things like "ballot stuff" and alleges that because ballots were counted after midnight they're fraudulent.

As Democratic election lawyer Marc Elias noted, Trump's lawyers should let him know that statements like these can be used against him in any forthcoming legal proceedings. Typically, lawyers advise their clients to stay quiet and refrain from speaking out.

One of the main issues that wasn't discussed in the second public hearing for the House Select Committee hearings on Monday is the degree to which former President Donald Trump's lies were investigated by the government, paid for at taxpayer expense.

Speaking to MSNBC, former House impeachment counsel Dan Goldman pointed out that it isn't something that is discussed because it's an issue that is lower down on the level of importance up against the attempt to overthrow the government.
