The feud between Ron DeSantis and Donald Trump has spilled into public view, but one political insider sees a chance for the Florida governor to steal some of the former president's thunder.

DeSantis criticized the former president's response to the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, and NBC News reporter Mark Caputo explained to MSNBC's "Morning Joe" how that signals a shift in the political dynamic between the two top contenders for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

It was reported Sunday that former President Donald Trump has been increasingly annoyed with Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) because he won't say that he isn't running for president and step aside for Trump. The problem, however, is that Trump hasn't said whether or not he is running, so it doesn't make a lot of sense for anyone else to prematurely withdraw until Trump decides whether or not he's running.

According to sources close to Trump, the ex-president has been calling DeSantis "dull" and complaining that he was the one who "made" the Florida governor.

On Monday's edition of CNN's "OutFront," New York Times reporter Jonathan Martin broke down the implications of his story that former President Donald Trump is turning on Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) over his apparent unwillingness to step aside for him in a presidential contest.

"I think the last five years of political history of Donald Trump would suggest this was probably inevitable, given that both of them harbor political ambitions," said Martin. "Look, Trump clearly has designs on being president, again. I think DeSantis is widely assumed to have White House hopes himself. So, you know, as big as the state of Florida is, it's not big enough to contain both men, politically at least. So not — not terribly surprising."

Speaking to MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel cited a Detroit News report that said a fake elector admitted that he got his marching orders from former President Donald Trump's campaign.

Republicans in Michigan, as well as other states, attempted to install an alternate slate of electors to replace the ones who would have followed the will of the public vote in the state. Nessel hasn't yet investigated or spoken to the fake elector, but she did turn over all of the evidence and information that her office found relating to the fake electors to the Justice Department.

On Monday, at a Martin Luther King Day event, Oklahoma GOP Gov. Kevin Stitt (R-OK) invoked the name of Dr. King to trash the Supreme Court's decision in McGirt v. Oklahoma, a 2019 ruling that held Oklahoma must honor a treaty granting large swathes of Eastern Oklahoma to Native American tribes with respect to law enforcement jurisdiction.

"I believe that freedom fighters like Dr. King would be astounded, maybe even disgusted, by the McGirt ruling," said Stitt. "The ruling created two sets of rules for Oklahomans based on their race. In Eastern Oklahoma right now there is not equal protection under the law."

Trump ally Roger Stone is ramping up the war of words against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

As reported by The Daily Beast's Zachary Petrizzo, Stone on Monday described DeSantis as "fat, slow, and dumb" in a diatribe against the man who could be Trump's rival for the 2024 GOP nomination.

Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, the former friend of first lady Melania Trump, is now claiming that the Trump family tried to tie her to corruption on the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) because she refused to go along with what she describes as their "grifting."

Taking to Twitter on Monday, Wolkoff responded to a Daily Beast report about the Trump committee noting that they tried to make her the fall gal for the corruption.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has been ratcheting up his criticisms of former President Donald Trump, most recently when he suggested that Trump let Dr. Anthony Fauci pressure him into issuing too many restrictions at the start of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Conservative writer Jonathan Last, however, believes that DeSantis's gambit is going to massively fail.

But one right-wing media figure who has no kind words for Trump in 2022 is author Ann Coulter, who believes that his dominance of the Republican Party has come to an end and has been bashing the ex-president on Twitter.

Interviewed by the New York Times, Coulter said, “Trump is done. You guys should stop obsessing over him.”

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is facing discontent as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis capturing attention for the Sunshine State.

On Monday, Newsweek published a column by David Reaboi, a fellow at the far-right Claremont Institute titled, "Ron DeSantis Welcomes You to Florida, America's New Texas."

Political frenemies Ron DeSantis and Donald Trump are each vying to be the top Republican in Florida.

"For months, former President Donald J. Trump has been grumbling quietly to friends and visitors to his Palm Beach mansion about a rival Republican power center in another Florida mansion, some 400 miles to the north. Gov. Ron DeSantis, a man Mr. Trump believes he put on the map, has been acting far less like an acolyte and more like a future competitor, Mr. Trump complains," The New York Times reported Sunday.

Reacting to a report that Gov. Ron DeSantis has made clear that he will defy a Supreme Court ruling favoring the Biden administration's mandatory vaccination policy for health care workers, a legal expert on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" said the Florida Republican's decision will not end well for him.

Last week, the governor's press secretary issued a statement reading, "The state of Florida is not going to serve as the Biden Administration’s biomedical police. Firing unvaccinated healthcare workers, many of whom have infection-conferred immunity, is unethical and unscientific on its face.”
