Mark Meadows knew the plot with an alternate slate of electors was illegal — but did it anyway: Court filing

The Guardian's justice reporter, Hugo Lowell, tweeted Friday evening that a new court filing could prove the White House's intent in the campaign to create an alternative slate of electors.

The House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol obtained the testimony that former President Donald Trump's chief of staff was told by the White House counsel that the plot would be unlawful.

WATCH: Self-proclaimed Christian 'prophet' calls for Biden to be jailed for treason in Oral Roberts speech

On Friday, at a "Flashpoint" broadcast at Oral Roberts University marked with Christian nationalists pledging allegiance to former President Donald Trump and claiming with no evidence that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him, Nebraska pastor and self-proclaimed "prophet" Hank Kunneman took to the stage and proclaimed that President Joe Biden should be sent to prison for treason.

"You know, they're talking about Biden's poll numbers," said Kunneman. "What they really need to be talking about is cell numbers. Not phone. Prison cell numbers! These guys have committed a crime! They have committed treason against the United States of America and its Constitution! They did not care about you, your pocketbook, or your children, and they want everything inside of their demonic agenda to bring you down, and this nation! But I'm here to tell you that they are standing against something greater than all of us. It is Almighty God who loves the United States of America, and he loves this church, and the gates of Hell will not prevail against it."

Marjorie Taylor Greene's lawyer exposed himself to a 'heckuva conflict of interest': former federal prosecutor

On Friday, during the hearing against Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), her attorney objected to a line of questioning about White House discussions of declaring martial law to overturn the 2020 presidential election — saying that he also represents former President Donald Trump, and claiming that any discussions on that are covered by executive privilege.

In response, former U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance expressed her shock at the claim of executive privilege, claiming that it is a "heckuva conflict of interest" for this attorney representing Greene to also have been involved in discussions with Trump — and noting the multiple ways that executive privilege does not, in fact, apply to this situation.

'The end of men': Photos of 'family values' Republican Madison Cawthorn in women's lingerie draw instant ridicule

The dirt on Rep. Many Republicans are using allegations of "grooming" and pedophilia to attack LGBTQ+ people. Cawthorn also was quoted just this week saying that there's "one God and two genders."

People are angry about near-daily mass shootings — and policymakers who don’t care

On Monday, CNN reporter Shimon Prokupecz cited the list of mass shootings over the Easter weekend in South Carolina and Pennsylvania. He noted that the one consistency is that they all contain bystanders, people simply out and about or partying or holding birthday events. Since January, there have been 143 mass shootings in 2022 alone, and it isn't even May. Over 600 people have been hurt.

A Washington Post report interviewed families of some of those victims caught in the crossfire. The only policy solutions have come from states that vote to allow more guns, less regulation and no training required. Yet as the access to weapons increases, so has the rate of mass shootings.

Latest Supreme Court decision is further proof why Puerto Rico should become a state: legal analysts

The U.S. Supreme Court released a set of decisions on Thursday covering cases that the Court heard in Oct. 2021. Most were mostly consensus decisions, and none were 5-4 decisions. But one 7-1 decision, with a dissent written by Justice Sonia Sotomayor, led some legal analysts to agree with her minority statement.

While in college, Justice Sotomayor penned her college thesis on Puerto Rican independence. A daughter of two Puerto Ricans who moved to New York, Sotomayor argued that there shouldn't be a difference between U.S. residents on the continental state and those on island territories.
