According to the lead investigator who worked for House select committee looking into the Jan. 6 insurrection, the final report on their findings may have only scratched the surface when describing how broad the conspiracy went to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

In an interview with the New York Times’ Luke Broadwater, Timothy J. Heaphy described the work they put in and where they came up short primarily due to allies of Donald Trump refusing to either testify or balking at answering some questions.

Special counsel investigating Trump subpoenas top Arizona GOP lawmakers, demanding they testify and turn over records

At least three Arizona Republican state legislators have been subpoenaed by the U.S. Justice Department’s special counsel, Jack Smith, as part of the criminal investigation into former President Donald Trump and his efforts to reverse his 2020 election loss.

The federal grand jury subpoenas were issued to Senate President Warren Petersen, Sen. Sonny Borrelli and House Speaker Ben Toma. And at least one former state senator, Michelle Ugenti-Rita, who led the Senate’s Election Committee in 2021, received a subpoena. All four have been ordered to produce records and travel to Washington, D.C., to testify.

The study — which transcribed 36,603 podcast episodes from 79 political talk shows released before Jan. 22, 2022 — checked each episode’s transcript for keywords associated with common falsehoods debunked by fact checkers, The New York Times explained.
