This week, Supreme Court Justice Sam Alito made a speech in Rome, sponsored by the University of Notre Dame Law School, in which he mocked world leaders who expressed concern over the United States eliminating the privacy and personal freedoms of women across the country. Alito cracked jokes and mocked the world leaders, something CNN host Fareed Zakaria called "cheap."

Jim Acosta said that it seemed like Alito was "needling" his opponents at a time when people are legitimately afraid of some of the state laws that target pregnant people and the doctors who help them. Already Americans have faced a series of frightening incidents about women being forced to get close to death before a hospital will save them with an abortion of a dead fetus. In another case, a 10-year-old rape survivor had to travel to another state for an abortion because she was three days after the cut-off date. Hospitals in Kansas City were forced to stop giving emergency contraception to women who came in after being raped.

The sunflower is known for being the national flower of Ukraine, so activists have been using it to show support for the country as they fight the Russian invasion.

About a month ago, a group of Washington, D.C. residents planted sunflowers in the public spaces outside the Russian embassy in the U.S. But last week, as the sunflowers grew taller, someone ripped them from the ground and threw them on the sidewalk. Activists returned last Sunday and planted more, pledging that they would continue to plant them every time they were pulled out.

The co-hosts of "The View" celebrated that Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) was agreeing to support something on the Democratic agenda.

Manchin and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) revealed the new reconciliation package would include a few of President Joe Biden's policy initiatives. Manchin's previous opposition had essentially killed Biden's ambitious plans, because in the 50-50 Senate, where Republicans rarely back Biden on anything, Democrats can't afford to lose a single vote.

The 9/11 families are speaking out after they heard many lies and broken promises from former President Donald Trump and his staff over the past few years.

MSNBC's Mehdi Hasan did a segment about President Joe Biden meeting with Saudi leaders while in the Middle East and the bizarre passive or outright embrace of Saudi Arabia by former U.S. presidents like Trump.

The House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on Congress showed the infamous photo of Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) shooting his fist in the air in solidarity with those about to attack the building.

Not long after it was Hawley that was running for his life. The video shown by the committee revealed the Missouri Republican racing across the halls and down an escalator. It turned Hawley into ridicule for days with the videos being put to music and allegations of his cowardice and hypocrisy.

Former President Donald Trump's lies were tracked by the Washington Post throughout his presidency, resulting in a list of 30,573 lies. According to Elie Mystal, legal analyst for The Nation and MSNBC, those lies appear to have trickled down to other staffers willing to perpetuate them.

The latest example, he explained, is a slate of Trump administration officials appearing on Sean Hannity's Fox show to explain Trump deployed 10,000 National Guard soldiers to the Capitol on Jan. 6 and jumped to help stop the violence. MSNBC's Chris Hayes played clip after clip of Hannity repeating the talking point over and over again. As recently as last month, Hannity was still spouting the lie he was told.

It was announced Wednesday that Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) was able to come to an agreement with Democrats over a larger package that included inflation measures, prescription drug reductions and efforts to mitigate climate change. Manchin had said last week that he couldn't vote for it because he was too worried about the money being spent impacting inflation negatively.

On Thursday, Manchin was telling his hometown radio that the whole package was dead but he was hopeful they could come together in September around something. He made it clear, however, that the stripped-down version of Build Back Better was never going to happen.

Washington Post reporter Carol Leonnig, who has long followed and reported on the Secret Service, cited the two White House staffers who appeared before the grand jury and were asked questions about former President Donald Trump.

ABC News reported this week that Marc Short was seen exiting the courthouse where the grand jury was meeting. He is among the first White House aides that were brought in to testify. While grand jury investigations are secret for lawyers and jurors, witnesses can answer questions publicly. Those White House aides have told reporters that they were asked directly about Trump.

More and more information is coming in about the Justice Department probe on Jan. 6 revealing that it has gone beyond the violence and moved into the attempt to overthrow the election.

Speaking to MSNBC on Wednesday, former Justice Department prosecutor Andrew Weissmann explained that he thinks Mark Meadows is likely going to be charged along with others in higher-level positions.

A new biography on Mike Pence is set to be released next month by longtime reporter Tom LoBianco, who spoke to Mehdi Hasan on MSNBC Tuesday night about the former vice president.

Among the questions from Hasan was whether any of the former aides to Pence would never have spoken to the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Congress and attempt to overthrow the election.

Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) revealed to MSNBC's Mehdi Hasan that the Secret Service has done more than merely deleting text messages, which they are mandated by law to submit to the National Archives.

Addressing the recent revelations about the Justice Department expanding beyond the violence on Jan. 6 to the attempt to overthrow the 2020 election, Lofgren said that she's not sure what role the House Select Committee had in lighting a fire under the attorney general. What she does know, she said, is that public opinion has turned dramatically against Trump as the public hearings continue.

It was revealed on Tuesday evening by the Washington Post that the Justice Department is looking into former President Donald Trump and his actions in an attempt to overthrow the 2020 election.

The report came out not long after NBC News host Lester Holt posted his full interview with Attorney General Merrick Garland in which he reiterated that attempting to overthrow an election is a crime. Holt asked Garland specifically about Jan. 6, but in his response, Garland pivoted to talk about how important it is for the DOJ to hold accountable anyone who is criminally responsible for interfering with the peaceful transfer of power from one administration to another, which is a fundamental part of our democracy."
