'Childish' Matt Gaetz confronted by Daily Show correspondent during his 'insurrection reenactment'

On Thursday, The Daily Beast reported that Jordan Klepper of The Daily Show confronted Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) on the anniversary of the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, while he was commemorating the event.

"With 'our nation’s leaders respectfully divided on how to best remember the day,' Klepper both mocked Democrats like Nancy Pelosi for using a Hamilton song to commemorate the moment and Republicans like Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene, who planned to retrace the steps of the 'patriotic Americans' who stormed the Capitol," reported Matt Wilstein. "As it turned out, Klepper caught up with Gaetz just as he was being whisked away in his SUV. But he did manage to get in a few questions before he sped off."

Legal expert explains why some Capitol rioters have been slapped with a law inspired by Bush era corruption

Some of the accused U.S. Capitol rioters are complaining they've been charged with a crime they didn't actually commit, but one legal expert explained the statute clearly covers the actions they allegedly took to stop the certification of the 2020 election.

At least 275 of the more than 700 defendants charged in the Jan. 6 insurrection have “been charged with corruptly obstructing, influencing, or impeding an official proceeding, or attempting to do so," which comes from a statutory amendment to the Victim and Witness Protection Act of 1982 added two decades later after the accountants for the energy firm Enron shredded documents to conceal them from investigators, wrote columnist Kimberly Wehle for The Bulwark.

Republican Marsha Blackburn faceplants as she tries to mock ‘liberal logic’

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) drew attention after a racially-charged speech about a Black judicial nominee she accused of having a "rap sheet" because he had speeding tickets from his 20s. As CNN explained, the phrase "rap sheet" is typically used for arrests and prosecutions and conflating it with a speeding ticket is absurd.

The day after, Blackburn is being called out again for tweeting something that proves she either didn't read the story link or she was outright lying.

Jake Tapper openly mocks Trump supporters' new Capitol riot conspiracy theory: 'Not exactly a Mensa group'

On Wednesday's edition of CNN's "The Lead," anchor Jake Tapper was overcome with laughter in conversation with correspondent Ryan Nobles while discussing a new conspiracy theory Republicans are promoting about the origin of the January 6 Capitol insurrection.

"This is a fringe conspiracy theory, but I have to ask you because it's showing up at congressional hearings raised by House and Senate Republicans," said Tapper. "An Arizona man, Ray Epps, has become a target of what appears to be a completely baseless right-wing conspiracy theory that he was an undercover FBI agent or informant or operative at the Capitol on January 6th last year. That he was planted by the government, this is the conspiracy theory. Planted by the government to encourage the insurrection. From his public profile and from reports about Epps, it appears he's a Trump supporter and a former member of the Arizona branch of the far right-wing group the Oath Keepers. Has the January 6th Committee looked into this accusation at all to see if there's any truth to it?"
