Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has been longing to be the speaker for years, but the party's leader, former President Donald Trump, doesn't appear willing to make it easy for him.

Punchbowl News reported Wednesday that the GOP is dealing with a lot after polls show significant changes in attitudes about whether the former president should be indicted for his attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election. An ABC/Ipsos poll showed that 58 percent believe Trump should be charged, while 60 percent support the Jan. 6 committee.

There is a slate of far-right candidates at the local and state level who could take over the machinery of America's elections.

While Donald Trump's supporters are pushing existing election officials and election workers out of their jobs, MAGA candidates and QAnon believers are now running to take their place. If local officials weren't willing to overthrow an election for the former president, the new ones might be.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-PA) spoke to Raw Story about the parts of day four of the House Select Committee hearings that she was able to watch and noted that it was clear to her that the behavior of Donald Trump and Rudy Giuliani was "un-American."

Dean went on to call the testimony "heartbreaking" because people like Sheye Moss "loves her job, proud of her work that is at the source of American citizenship."

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) told reporters outside of the House Select Committee hearing room on Tuesday that the testimony heard was "compelling" and that all of those who testified were trying to simply do their jobs to uphold the election.

"I think that you've seen throughout the hearings that we are putting forward very clearly, a number of instances, in which there are serious questions about the actions of the former president," Cheney explained. "We'll continue to do so."

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), one of the officials on the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on Congress and the attempt to overthrow the election, spoke to Raw Story about the testimony heard on Tuesday.

The committee spoke to Republican officials, but also spoke with Shaye Moss, who served as an election worker for the 2020 election and ultimately became the target of Donald Trump's supporters. She tearfully described the attacks on her, her mother and grandmother and those who terrorized the women ahead of Jan. 6.

After the testimony, a CNN panel confessed that it was emotional for them.

Wandrea "Shaye" Moss was among the election workers who were targeted by former President Donald Trump and his allies who lied about her and her mother trying to change the election.

Through tears and at times shaking, Moss talked about what her mother and grandmother experienced as supporters of Trump knocked on their door at all hours of the day and night.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Norma Torres (D-CA) briefly spoke with Raw Story during the break of the fourth public hearing of the House Select Committee on Tuesday, saying that what continues to shock her is that people who should know better were promoting conspiracies.

"It's heartbreaking how this man was able to fool so many American people," she said. "And you wonder, educated, professionals who know the system and understand the system — why they went along with what the president was stating for so long."

Arizona House Speaker Rusty Bowers, a Republican, recalled the White House calling him to pressure him to overturn the 2020 election for the state.

Testifying on Tuesday before the House Select Committee investigating Jan. 6 insurrection, Bowers said that he got a phone call from the White House in which the operator told him to "hold for the president." Rudy Giuliani came on the phone instead. Both he and former President Donald Trump began their pressure campaign to get him to lead a charge to change the 2020 election results.

Former adviser to Sen. Ted Cruz, Amanda Carpenter, penned a column for The Bulwark in which she argued that former President Donald Trump's statements about the house hearings have proven the point of the Select Committee.

Tuesday marks the fourth of the House Select Committee's public hearings to walk through the violence that unfolded on Jan. 6 and the attempt to overturn the 2020 election. Each of the hearings has brought new evidence that continues to implicate Trump. But Trump has only doubled down on his debunked claims of election fraud.

Over the weekend, the Texas Republican Party announced its party platform that detailed the beliefs and ideas of the GOP. "The View" host Sunny Hostin said Tuesday that she appreciated it because up until this point the Republican Party has only been voting against things, they haven't explicitly said what they're for.

One of those things is secession from the United States. Co-host Whoopi Goldberg warned that if they decided to break away from the U.S. that they should be prepared for us to build a wall to keep them out.

South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg hit a man while driving home from a political fundraiser, leaving him for dead in the road. But in the 647 days since, Rolling Stone noted that Ravnsborg has only doubled down on staying in his position as the state's top lawmaker.

A whopping 70 percent of the state wants him to resign and he was the first state official in South Dakota to be impeached.

Ginni Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, attended a right-wing fringe meeting months after the Jan. 6 attack in which the speaker earned thunderous applause for advocating the lie that Trump won the 2020 election, the Washington Post reported.

Thomas has come under fire in recent weeks when it was discovered that she was pressing 29 Arizona lawmakers to change the 2020 election result in the state. Thomas, who also would meet with former President Donald Trump for lunch and dictate who he should hire and fire, also corresponded with lawyer John Eastman, the author of the so-called "coup memo."
