Trump 'repeatedly declined' to endorse Kevin McCarthy for Speaker while fuming about Jan. 6 hearings

Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has been longing to be the speaker for years, but the party's leader, former President Donald Trump, doesn't appear willing to make it easy for him.

Punchbowl News reported Wednesday that the GOP is dealing with a lot after polls show significant changes in attitudes about whether the former president should be indicted for his attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election. An ABC/Ipsos poll showed that 58 percent believe Trump should be charged, while 60 percent support the Jan. 6 committee.

Wealthy donors are rallying to stop election-denying MAGA candidates from seizing America's election machinery

Ginni Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, attended a right-wing fringe meeting months after the Jan. 6 attack in which the speaker earned thunderous applause for advocating the lie that Trump won the 2020 election, the Washington Post reported.

Thomas has come under fire in recent weeks when it was discovered that she was pressing 29 Arizona lawmakers to change the 2020 election result in the state. Thomas, who also would meet with former President Donald Trump for lunch and dictate who he should hire and fire, also corresponded with lawyer John Eastman, the author of the so-called "coup memo."
