‘The usual scams just aren’t working’: Trump’s defense against Hutchinson testimony is ‘preposterously weak’

Donald Trump's allies have kicked into gear after devastating testimony from former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson, but they're having trouble gaining traction.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — "Where do I begin?" Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-PA) asked, speaking to Raw Story after the House Select Committee's sixth public hearing.

She explained that what former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson revealed on Tuesday was "a total betrayal by the president of the United States and their oath" of office. "It was a setup. He was a part of it. He wanted to lead it. He wanted to lead the criminal insurrection, the overthrow of the government. His own government."

CNN analyst explains the big mistake the Trump White House made with Cassidy Hutchinson

Discussing the highly anticipated testimony of Cassidy Hutchinson, who previously served as the chief aide to former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, Axios editor Margaret Talov explained that the Donald Trump administration made a grievous -- but common -- error in how they treated her.

Hutchinson, who has already given over 20 hours of testimony under oath to the House Jan 6th Committee, is expected to be the central figure in the surprise hearing that will be televised on Tuesday, and, as Talov explained, she probably has some bombshells to drop under questioning.

Cassidy Hutchinson is 'what prosecutors dream of in a witness': CNN's Elie Honig

While discussing former Mark Meadows aide Cassidy Hutchinson's highly anticipated testimony on Tuesday, CNN legal analyst Elie Honig explained why she could be a devastating witness against former President Donald Trump.

Among other things, noted Honig, it will be very hard for former Trump officials to argue that she was merely a low-level staffer or a "Never Trump" Republican who had a grudge against the twice-impeached former president.

He also must stay away from the victim and cease his habit of pretending to be in the military or a policeman, the Miami Herald reports.

According to The Herald, Joseph Fucheck, 60, had posed as a former police SWAT leader and Navy SEAL, and wore a bogus military uniform and fake medals of valor. The criminal charge against him was enhanced under Florida’s “hate-crime” law, which makes the crime punishable by 15 years in prison.

A former White House staffer will testify before a House select committee hearing that was not announced until the day before for security reasons that may be related to one of the Republican lawmakers she implicated in the Jan. 6 insurrection.

Cassidy Hutchinson, an aide to Donald Trump's former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, will testify Tuesday before the panel about efforts to overturn the former president's election loss, but her previous testimony -- which was recorded on video and shown in previous hearings -- about a specific GOP lawmaker necessitated the secrecy, Washington Post reporter Jacqueline Alemany told MSNBC's "Morning Joe."
