The DOJ might offer immunity to those J6 witnesses who 'can't recall' to help them remember: Law professor

In the stack of transcripts of the testimony that witnesses gave to the House Select Committee was a slew of allies to Donald Trump who suddenly couldn't "recall" a number of things. When Cassidy Hutchinson testified about her experience working as an aide to former chief of staff Mark Meadows, she revealed that her Trump-funded lawyer pushed her to say she couldn't recall things, even if she could. Hutchinson has since handed over all information she has to the DOJ.

It has prompted many to question whether they couldn't recall out of convenience or whether it was a legitimate claim.

The only good year Trump had in business was when he sold his father's real estate empire: David Fahrenthold

New York Times reporter David Fahrenthold has spent the better part of the past six years following the financial life of former President Donald Trump, particularly when it comes to his business. Trump has claimed for decades that he's a billionaire.

A big part of the problem is that the IRS isn't fully funded and they don't have the resources to go after wealthy people who are willing to spend years in court fighting against tax problems. So many of the wealthy in America are going unchecked while poor families are facing off against the IRS.

Even John Stamos thinks Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen are better when they're drinking

Chris Licht's leadership at CNN has been a source of complaints from viewers and those who have been the victim of his mass layoffs. But the biggest victim came on New Year's Eve, when CNN is normally the home of absolute hilarity, joy, silliness and fun. Instead, Licht decided that the hosts couldn't loosen things up by drinking.

Twitter viewers were uninspired, but it was actor John Stamos who made it clear that even he noticed the hosts were much better when they were drinking on past shows. Generally co-hosts of Cooper's find different ways to make him laugh, which can, at times, sound like a little girl's giggle.

Trump's New Year's Eve 'media availability' was a nothing-burger that no cable news stations carried

Donald Trump invited the media for a moment he called "media availability" at Mar-a-Lago ahead of the country club's annual New Year's Eve celebration. When the time came, however, Trump spoke for fewer than five minutes and not one of the cable news stations covered it, including allies like Newsmax and Fox.

It was reminiscent of Trump's "big announcement" that ended up being a ploy for his own personal trading cards he was selling for $99.

Mike Lindell spreads a rumor that RNC chair is laundering money

Pillow magnate Mike Lindell is among those going after Republican Party for the chairmanship after it experienced a puddle over what they thought was going to be a red wave.

Lawyer and activist Ron Filipkowski posted the video of Lindell saying that he'd done "research" into the Republican Party's finances and that he thinks he's discovered money laundering. Lindell is the same man who maintains that Donald Trump won the 2020 election and every few months he proclaims that he's about to have the evidence necessary to prove the election was stolen only to fail to deliver again. In 2021 alone, Lindell spent $25 million pushing his conspiracies. He's now facing a $1.3 billion lawsuit by Dominion Voting Systems for spreading conspiracy theories about the company.

Elise Stefanik is the case study of the collapse of the Republican Party: report

The New York Times walked through the startling evolution of Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), who changed suddenly from a moderate millennial setting a path for a modern Republican Party to a true apologist for Donald Trump.

"But as her third term unfolded, according to current or former friends and advisers, it was becoming painfully clear that she was the future of a Republican Party that no longer existed," the Times explained. "The party was now firmly controlled by Donald J. Trump, a populist president she didn’t like or respect — a “whack job,” as she once described him in a message obtained by The New York Times. Fox hosts attacked her for not supporting Mr. Trump enough. Her friends criticized her for not opposing him more forcefully. You don’t understand, she would tell them. You don’t get how hard this is. Democrats were back in charge in the House. Mr. Ryan was gone, driven into early retirement. She told friends she was thinking of joining him."

Cruise lines ordered to pay more than $400 million for 'trafficking' in confiscated property in Cuba

A federal judge ordered four Florida-based cruise lines that sailed to Cuba to pay more than $400 million in damages to the American company that had the concession to some of the port piers in Havana that had been unlawfully expropriated by Fidel Castro in 1960, the first of its kind ruling under a law that punishes ‘”trafficking in stolen property” in Cuba. The much-anticipated decision by U.S. District Judge Beth Bloom on Friday follows another consequential ruling in March in which she concluded that the four companies — Carnival, MSC SA, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian — committed “traffick...

House Republicans announce their priority list of red-meat bills that won't be going anywhere

House Majority Leader-elect Steve Scalise has announced a list of 11 slabs of red-meat legislation that his Republican caucus will be unveiling in the first two weeks of the 118th Congress.

Scalise released a “Dear Colleague” letter to the caucus Friday enumerating pieces of “meaningful, ‘ready-to-go’ legislation.” He neglected to mention that each of them might also be termed “ready-to-go-nowhere” since the Democrats maintained their majority in the U.S. Senate.

Murdoch's New York Post warns Republican 'saboteurs' to shut up — then ridicules them as losers

The conservative New York Post is telling tea party Republicans to sit down, shut up and accept Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as their leader.

For the past several weeks, Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Ralph Norman (R-NC), Matt Rosendale (R-MT) and Bob Good (R-VA) have maintained their refusal to compromise their beliefs for McCarthy. The GOP leader was ridiculed for the last year for being caught telling people whatever they want to hear, even if it conflicts with previously recorded statements from him. The biggest mockery has come from McCarthy attacking Donald Trump for the Jan. 6 attack and then crawling back to Mar-a-Lago to beg for help.
