How election-denying GOP governors could tilt the 2024 presidential election

Republican candidates who claim that the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump have been nominated for governor in four critical swing states, raising concerns that if elected they could try to sway election results in 2024 and beyond.

In Arizona, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, Republican primary voters elected a candidate who has denied the results of the 2020 election and believes that voter fraud influenced the results. GOP voters also nominated an election-denying candidate in Maryland, though he has less chance of winning in a blue state.

Expert: Watch PA and AZ to see if Trumpism will triumph in the US

Peter Montgomery has studied America’s religious right for more than 20 years yet he’s never seen anything akin to how Trump-endorsed election denialists campaign for the upcoming midterm elections.

“Look at Laura Loomer, who lost by about 6,000 votes in Florida’s Republican primaries, a close race but a clear loss--and by a sizable number of votes,” said Montgomery, a People for the American Way senior fellow.

A new filing from the Fulton County District Attorney's office paints the clearest picture yet of the scope of a special grand jury's investigation into potential election interference in Georgia's 2020 presidential election by former President Donald Trump and his allies.

The Tuesday response to Gov. Brian Kemp's motion to quash his closed-door testimony in the probe outlines potential lines of questioning for the governor and hints that the wide-reaching investigation will likely not finish before the November midterm election.

Rudy Giuliani roamed Mar-a-Lago's secret tunnels while recovering from alcoholism: new book

Rudy Giuliani retreated to Mar-A-Lago after drinking away his sorrows from his flameout in the 2008 Republican presidential primary, according to a new book.

The former New York City mayor won just a single delegate in that primary election, and his third wife told biographer Andrew Kirtzman that Giuliani plunged into "clinical depression" afterward and "started to drink more heavily," according to excerpts from Giuliani: The Rise and Tragic Fall of America’s Mayor, published by The Guardian.

Lindsey Graham granted reprieve from testifying before Fulton County special grand jury: report

South Carolina GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham has successfully at least delayed testimony before the Georgia special grand jury investigating efforts by Donald Trump and supporters to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

Graham (R-S.C.) to testify before a Georgia grand jury investigating Republican efforts to reverse the 2020 presidential election results in the state," The Washington Post reported. Michael Cohen says there are more than enough low-level charges to go after Trump already — just like Al Capone

Former Donald Trump lawyer Michael Cohen spoke with CNN's Jim Acosta Saturday in a wide-ranging interview about the recent guilty plea involving Trump Org. CEO Allen Weisselberg and the documents found at Trump's golf club.

Weisselberg, who has been with Trump for more than 40 years, pleaded guilty this week and agreed to spend 100 days in jail and testify against the Trump Organization, but not against the company's boss. While Weisselberg is going to the infamous Rikers Island prison, he'll only spend five months there. Cohen thinks he deserves much more.

Anderson Cooper recounts — in disbelief — all of Trump’s debunked excuses for Mar-a-Lago documents

CNN's Anderson Cooper reported on the series of excuses Donald Trump has given since the FBI searched Mar-a-Lago for classified documents with a chyron reading "keeping them honest" and "let's try *this* one."

"Good evening and welcome to what might be called the 'perfect phone call' stage in the latest scandal involving the former president," Cooper began. "You'll recall, 'perfect phone call' was the phrase the former president used to describe the call that got him impeached. The call in which he tried to strong-arm the president of Ukraine into helping him smear Joe Biden. He called it a perfect phone call after his supporters and enablers had made a slew of excuses about the call, none of which really held up."

'Going to get someone killed': Trump lawyer threatens to expose FBI agents even if DOJ redacts names

Trump attorney Alina Habba on Thursday suggested releasing surveillance footage of the FBI's search of Mar-a-Lago even though it could reveal the identities of agents who executed it.

Federal Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart, who signed off on the search warrant, on Thursday gave the Justice Department a week to propose redactions ahead of a possible release of the probable cause affidavit filed by the DOJ to get the warrant. The DOJ opposed releasing the affidavit at all, arguing that it could expose agents and witnesses and reveal the inner workings of an ongoing investigation. The DOJ is investigating Trump under the Espionage Act after he failed to turn over classified documents he had taken to his residence.

Fulton County DA expects Lindsey Graham to 'reveal additional routes of inquiry' for Georgia election probe

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis's office on Friday argued that Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-GA) should not be allowed to further stall his testimony before a special grand jury on the grounds that it would "delay the revelation of an entire category of relevant witnesses or information."

As flagged by Politico's Kyle Cheney, the Fulton County DA's office argued that Graham's testimony is "crucial" to the investigation because "he is expected to provide information regarding additional sources of relevant information."
