Feds claim there are no documents on record that apply to a so-called Trump 'declassification order'

Former President Donald Trump and his allies have claimed multiple times that there was a kind of "declassification order" on many of the documents that he took from the White House back to his country club in Florida.

In an interview with the Fox network, Trump said that while he was in office he "often took documents, including classified documents, to the residence" and "had a standing order that documents removed from the Oval Office and taken to the residence were deemed to be declassified the moment he removed them."

'Unfit': PA Republicans devolve into 'childish' 4 am 'trash talk' against opponents

Pennsylvania Republican candidates began their trash-talking at 4 a.m. Monday morning, with Doug Mastriano lashing out at Attorney General Josh Shapiro over the gubernatorial debates.

The Philadelphia Inquirer noted Mastriano's name-calling of Shapiro as a "little man," presumably a play on Donald Trump's attack on "Little Marco" Rubio. Shapiro refused to participate in a debate moderated by a former aide to Donald Trump, saying it was a "stunt."

How Clinton's 'sock drawer' lawsuit is vastly different than Trump taking classified docs

A bizarre case involving former President Bill Clinton and Donald Trump's stolen documents was broached by a producer for MSNBC's Rachel Maddow, Steve Benen, on Monday.

Writing for the Maddow blog, Benen recalled that while serving as president, Clinton frequently spoke with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Tylor Branch, resulting in several tapes that were perhaps to be used as part of a memoir or biography. At one point, however, those tapes were stored in a sock drawer.

Phones taken by Justice Department as they roll out 40 subpoenas of Trump allies involved in fake electors scheme

WASHINGTON — The New York Times reported Monday afternoon that at least 40 subpoenas have been filed for allies of former President Donald Trump over the attempt to overthrow the 2020 election using the fake electors.

At least two of Trump's top advisers had their phones taken by the FBI, sources told the Times. Boris Epshteyn, a Russian-American Republican political strategist who served as a strategic adviser to Trump's 2020 campaign was one of those who had to surrender his phone. The other was Mike Roman an opposition researcher who worked for Trump from 2017 to 2018. He went on to work on the campaign, and became the person who handed off the envelope of fake electors to be given to Vice President Mike Pence.

Former Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill said Monday that after a new court filing from Donald Trump's lawyers over classified documents she's "embarrassed for them."

One of the ongoing problems with Judge Aileen Cannon's injunction with the classified documents is that the FBI and intelligence community can't do an assessment on the impact of having the documents out in the public.

Decades after 9/11 the US is at risk again by dangerous terrorists: Former FBI counter-intel officer warns

President Joe Biden made a speech at the Pentagon about Sept. 11 and spoke out against the kind of extremism that led terrorists to fly into American buildings, killing thousands. He told the crowd outside of the building that the most important thing that they can do is to continue to push back against the forces that are trying to undermine democracy.

While the anti-democratic forces may have been al Qaeda 21 years ago. Today, there is a fear that right-wing extremists, militia groups, white supremacist organizations and neo-Nazis are growing in power and conducting their own attacks. One group plotted to kidnap and assassinate a governor, ram their cars into protesters, open fire on protesters, and threaten local officials, election workers and federal judges.

Ron Johnson swears he never lies — then attacks 'the left' demanding they should be kicked 'out' of churches

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) is having a difficult reelection back home as he's being forced to answer questions from voters about his role in ongoing concerns over Russia and involvement in the attempt to overthrow the 2020 election.

Johnson is dealing with the controversy and his lies around his role in the 2020 election overthrow attempt. At one point, hours prior to officials being at the Capitol, Johnson was given an envelope with the fake electors for at least two states inside. He was to give it to Vice President Mike Pence. Instead, a top Johnson aide didn't seem to know what to do with it and reached out to a Pence aide, who said not to hand the envelope over. The fake electors' scandal is now an investigation by the Justice Department. One of those fake electors works for Johnson.

Justice Department's offer is almost a 'face-saving' option for Trump-appointed judge: former prosecutor

Former U.S. Attorney, now law professor, Barbara McQuade, noted on Sunday that it's clear even Donald Trump's lawyers think his statements are unsound, because they're not included in the legal filings before his hand-picked judge, Alieen Cannon.

"It’s telling that Trump’s lawyers do not repeat in court filings his claims of declassification or planted evidence. In court, lies can get you sanctioned or disbarred. But Trump’s baseless claims undermine public trust and fuel extremist violence," she said on Sunday morning.
